Duties

You will set up and take down, calibrate and maintain equipment for laboratory exercises. You will ensure chemical waste is properly stored and segregated by hazard class according to all relevant safety and regulatory guidelines. You will maintain inventory of all chemicals in all teaching and research laboratories. You will accurately prepare and/or analyze chemical unknowns on which students in laboratories will be graded.

  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Bending, climbing on a ladder or step-stool, lifting (40 lbs) and sliding (100 lbs) heavy objects and spending long periods on his / her feet are required to fulfill the duties of this position.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-06) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector: 1) Planning, coordinating, preparing and maintaining chemicals, solutions and equipment in support of a laboratory (e.g. classroom); 2) Setting up and breaking down chemicals and equipment for experiments, demonstrations or events ; 3) Managing inventory of equipment and supplies to support laboratory experiments and demonstrations; and 4) Testing laboratory instruments and equipment to ensure working condition.
