This position is located in Saguaro National Park, in the Interpretation Division.
Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will work from approximately End of July through beginning of July, and you will be in a non-pay status for the remainder of the year.
Duties
Major Duties of this position include:
Create, coordinate, and execute curriculum-based programs in the field, in classrooms, and on digital platforms with a variety of audiences in grades K-12.
Acts as the educational liaison between Saguaro National Park and the park's affiliated tribal partners to assure accuracy and respect within educational materials presented and produced by the park.
Develop non-personal educational content (e.g. video, exhibits, props) to support youth programming and interpretive content.
Lead and coordinate activities with non-curriculum based audiences of young people and family groups in the context of camps, hiking clubs, outreach activities, and the park's youth volunteer corps.
Work within a team to support, innovate, and improve Saguaro's education and youth programming.
Duty Location Info:
Position is duty stationed Saguaro National Park in Tucson, Arizona. The park is comprised of two districts to the east (Rincon Mountain District) and west (Tucson Mountain District) of the city, with an hour-long drive between the two. Tucson is a vibrant and diverse community of nearly 1 million. All urban services, (hospitals, education, university, shopping, etc.) are readily available within the area. It is the Sonoran Desert and daytime temperatures range from 100+ degrees in the summer to 20-70 degrees in the winter. Cooler temperatures at higher elevations. Temporary government housing may be available, but permanent housing is not. Numerous housing opportunities exist outside of the park. This position is officed in the west district of the park.

Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.

To qualify for this position at the GS-6 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-5 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: park guide or tour leader; environmental educator, teacher or naturalist; or other similar work REQUIRING skill in working with audiences of diverse backgrounds, ages and group sizes and knowledge of topics related to cultural history, natural history, biological/physical sciences, natural resources, or other disciplines related to resource-based education. You must include hours per week worked.
Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
