Joining the Secret Service, Office of Training, James J. Rowley Training Center will allow you to independently maintain, modify, adapt, and test firearms and related equipment that is used or will be deployed into agency operations.

Duties
The selectee will serve as an Equipment Specialist (Small Arms & Ammunition) in the Office of Training, James J. Rowley Training Center. Typical work assignments include:
Acting as a technical expert in the investigation, testing, and validation of reports concerning the improper use of firearms or the false fire of a firearm.
Developing reports and other supporting documentation either validating or invalidating a firearms performance.
Preparing technical and authoritative responses to other law enforcement agencies and military facilities requesting information on firearms and ammunition.
Researching, identifying, and articulating solutions to highly sensitive and unprecedented issues impacting the use of firearms as a result of false fire, firearms malfunction, or unforeseen problems.
Utilizing ballistic testing equipment such as brass calibration, pressure testing, air gauge, ballistic media, velocity and accuracy testing range to evaluate the performance of firearms, ammo, and equipment.
Qualifications
Specialized Experience
GS-12: You qualify for the GS-12 level (starting salary $99,200.00) if you possess one year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-11 level in the Federal Service (obtained in either the public or private sectors) performing the following duties:
Evaluate firearms or related equipment to determine readiness for field deployment;
Conduct ammunition testing to evaluate the performance of firearms, ammunition, or related equipment; and
Inspect firearms, ammunition, and/or related equipment to perform required maintenance.

GS-13: You qualify for the GS-13 level (starting salary $117,962) if you possess one year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-12 level in the Federal Service (obtained in either the public or private sectors) performing the following duties:
Evaluate firearms, ammunition, or related equipment to create procurement packages to meet an organization's needs;
Complete firearms testing to analyze malfunctions to develop solutions; and
Conduct training to advise on the safe and proper use of firearms and related equipment.

PLEASE NOTE: This position requires FAC-COR Level II certification. The incumbent must maintain or obtain a FAC-COR Level II certification within the first 2 years of hiring.

Please note: The work of this position is performed in an office setting and at a variety of training locations at James J. Rowley Training Center (JJRTC). The work at the JJRTC involves exposure to loud noises, fumes, chemical explosives, lead and other hazards found in a firearms testing/training facility. The incumbent may also visit facilities of contract sites to review, test and/or approve project operations as needed and requires the employee to take special safety precautions.
