The Therapy Supervisor, Occupational Therapist, oversees a multidisciplinary team of therapists in the area assigned, ensuring efficient care coordination across disciplines and sections for veteran healthcare at STVHCS. Responsibilities include clinical operations management, department leadership support, and direct patient care. Supervision areas and therapist numbers may vary based on service and veteran needs.
Duties
Implement clinic improvement strategies for therapy sections, including scheduling, staffing, and planning.
Supervise, evaluate, and support staff safety and performance, addressing any issues.
Coordinate therapy services for effective collaboration with other healthcare providers.
Ensure staff adheres to evidence-based therapy practices for optimal client outcomes.
Evaluate staff competency in OT, PT, and/or KT and analyze data for quality improvement.
Provide equipment training and maintain safe, clean treatment environments.
Develop and communicate Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for staff training.
Maintain OSHA and facility safety standards in treatment areas.
Uphold patient confidentiality according to HIPAA regulations.
Review and ensure accuracy of reports submitted by team leaders.
Report findings to leadership and implement program changes for improvement.
Manage tasks, deadlines, and organizational issues to meet goals.
Collaborate with leadership to analyze employee productivity and performance data.
Conduct interviews, recommend candidates, and evaluate staff performance.
Collaborate with therapy section chief to meet Performance Measures.
Address staff needs and conflicts using interpersonal skills.
Assist with clinical projects, committees, and accreditation requirements.
Perform other duties assigned by leadership.

Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Education and/or Experience.
Bachelor's degree in occupational therapy and two (2) years of experience as an occupational therapist or;
NOTE: The baccalaureate degree must be from an approved program prior to the AOTA January 1, 2005 decision that the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) would only accredit master or doctoral degree programs in occupational therapy.
Bachelor's degree in occupational therapy and two (2) full years of graduate education in a related field or;
NOTE: The baccalaureate degree must be from an approved program prior to the AOTA January 1, 2005 decision that ACOTE would only accredit master or doctoral degree programs in occupational therapy.
Master's Degree or higher in occupational therapy.
Foreign Graduates. Graduates of foreign occupational therapy programs meet the requirements if they have a current, full, active and unrestricted license to practice occupational therapy in a state, territory or Commonwealth of the United States (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia.
Certification. Candidates must possess a current NBCOT certification as an OT.
State Licensure. Candidates must possess a full, current, and unrestricted state license, to practice occupational therapy in a state, territory or Commonwealth of the United States (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia.
This position is above the full performance level, so there are no grandfathering provisions applicable to the qualification standards.
Grade Determinations.
Supervisory Occupational Therapist, GS-13
Education, Experience, and Licensure. Completion of one year of experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level and directly related to the position being filled.
Demonstrated KSAs. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs:
Ability to balance multiple responsibilities, set priorities, delegate tasks, meet multiple deadlines, analyze organizational problems, and develop and implement effective solutions.
Ability to analyze organizational and operational problems to develop and implement solutions that result in efficient operations and use data effectively to manage workload, quality performance, and productivity within the service.
Skill in dealing with employees, team leaders, and managers to include conflict resolution.
Ability to utilize evidence-based practices and clinical practice guidelines in a professional area and to guide the staff in applying these tools.
Experience is only creditable if it is post-graduate experience as a professional OT directly related to the duties to be performed. Qualifying experience must be at a level comparable to professional occupational therapy experience at the next lower level.

Leadership Experience: Proven track record in leading and motivating a large, diverse, multidisciplinary team of professionals across various practice settings.
Collaboration Skills: Experienced in coordinating and collaborating with senior leadership teams.
Data Analysis: Skilled in tracking workload, utilization, productivity, and other metrics to identify trends and implement changes.
Relationship Building: Capable of fostering relationships and building coalitions within Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) and across the healthcare system.
Safety and Standards Compliance: Strong understanding of High Reliability Organization (HRO) principles and just culture; committed to maintaining safety and compliance with Joint Commission and Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) standards.
Adaptability: Able to adapt to various challenges, adjust processes, and effectively communicate expectations to both leadership and direct reports.
