About the Position: This position is located with the U.S. Army Sustainment Command, 407th Army Field Support Brigade, Logistics Readiness Center, Plans and Operations Division, in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.
Duties
Serve as the principal consultant and technical authority for explosives safety, ammunition surveillance, and quality assurance.
Advise regional ammunition personnel to ensure safe operation of ammunition supply point operations and compliance with applicable directives and regulations pertinent to approved storage, handling, and transportation of ammunition.
Perform analysis and investigations to detect adverse quality trends or conditions and initiate corrective actions.
Make periodic field visits to inspect storage facilities; and determine adequacy of quantity distance storage limitations, security system and lightning system.
Conduct inspections of all lots of ammunition to assure reliability and compliance with explosives safety.
Develop basic policy guides and technical instructions, directives, programs, and policies pertaining to explosives safety, and ammunition inspections and surveillance programs for supported Army locations.
Investigate and evaluate all malfunctions incidents and accidents involving ammunition.
Participate as a member of installation Ammunition Certification Boards; review personnel qualifications/training; make certification recommendations; and advise management on requirements and opportunities for training.
Requirements
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter.
- In accordance with AR 690-11, this position has been designated as "Key" and shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization as doing so would seriously impair the capability of the organization to function effectively.
- The incumbent must be exempted from recall to active duty and will receive training to ensure mission accomplishment of sustaining base operations during mobilization.
- This position has been designated "Mission Essential".
- In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
- This act bans individuals convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence and certain others from possession or access to firearms or ammunition.
- This position requires the incumbent to be a member of the Quality Assurance Specialist (Ammunition Surveillance) career program (Army Regulation 690-950-20). The incumbent will be subject to mandatory worldwide rotation.
- Term employment is subject to a one year trial period.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
