Duties

As a Safety and Occupational Health Manager (Leader) you will: Serve as an advisor to management on issues of biosafety, chemical, and radiation safety. Responsible for planning, developing, coordinating, promoting, and implementing a comprehensive health and safety program for applicable facilities and activities. Plan and coordinate the investigation of employee complaints, accidents, incidents, and exposures. Prepare formal findings and recommendations for alleviation or elimination of hazards. Conduct investigations related to occupational safety and health and environmental hazard mitigation. Monitor procedures for compliance and adherence to applicable policies and regulations.

Requirements Continued: This position conducts investigations related to occupational safety and health and environmental hazard mitigation. The work may involve the risk of exposure to a variety of biological, chemical and radiological hazards, which require special safety precautions. Perform work in a laboratory and in both underground and surface mines, requiring passing an underground physical examination. Must possess a valid State driver's license. Is an incidental driver of Government-owned vehicles up to and including 1-ton trucks Minimum Qualifications: To qualify at the GS-13 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level, which must include the following experience: assisting in planning, and designing occupational health and safety programs and environmental compliance programs, i.e. Ergonomics, hazard communication, personal protective equipment, workplace safety, etc. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
