This position is located in the Laboratory Department of the Lawton Indian Hospital, Lawton, OK. The incumbent will provide waived laboratory support to the professional medical staff and laboratory personnel and perform phlebotomy services and capillary draws on patients for the outpatient and inpatient services. This position reports to the Supervisory Laboratory Technologist.

Duties

Perform patient phlebotomy by venipuncture and capillary methods. Sort and prepare patient specimens received for testing. Perform clerical duties as a part of laboratory support duties. Perform testing in the laboratory to assist with workflow. Assist with workflow by performing some waived testing.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Specialized Experience: For positions at GS-4 and above: (a) Technical medical laboratory support work such as performing laboratory tests and examinations (chemical, microbiologic, hematologic and blood banking) and preparing reports of findings or (b) technical support work in a closely related field, e.g., biological laboratory technician work, that required application of the methods and techniques for the position to be filled. OR Education and Training: For GS-4: Successful completion of (a) an associate-degree course of study of which the 2nd year of the 2-year program included successful completion of a training course of approximately a year's duration in a certified laboratory assistant school approved by a nationally recognized accrediting agency; (b) 1 year of study that included 6 semester hours in chemistry and/or the biological sciences, plus successful completion of the training course as described in (a) above for GS-3; or (c) 2 years of study that included at least 12 semester hours of chemistry and/or biological science course work that must have been directly related to the specialization of the position to be filled. For GS-5: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects appropriate to the position to be filled. In addition to the Individual Occupational Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: GS-04: Six months of general experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter of the position to be filled AND 6 months of specialized experience that has equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This specialized experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-03 level in the Federal service as described in the vacancy announcement. Examples Include: Use laboratory manuals which give detailed instructions regarding techniques, procedures, reagents, controls, normal values, etc. Setting up collection trays with supplies necessary for collection of blood and other specimens. OR Two years above high school with courses related to the occupation. GS-05: One year of specialized experience that has equipped me with the particular knowledge, sills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This specialized experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-04 level in the Federal service as described in the vacancy announcement. Examples include: Perform a variety of standardized tests and examinations under normal technical supervision. Follows written procedures which give carefully detailed instructions on each step of the assigned test and examinations including the techniques, procedures, stains, reagents, chemicals, temperatures, measurements, controls to use and observe, machine settings, etc. Perform phlebotomy services, both finger sticks and adult venipunctures. Determine correct blood specimen for each test ordered. Adhere to quality control procedures. OR 4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree wit courses related to the occupation General Experience: (1) Any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, or (2) experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
