Duties

Demonstrates the knowledge of scales, torque wrenches, and gauges. Administers the use of a variety of tools, equipment and gauges. Inspects ammunition and packing for degradation, in-transit damage and compliance with quality requirements. Uses a variety of tools, equipment and gages required to test, weigh, disassemble, unpack and repack ammunition during inspections. Works at a number of inspection stations to witness the disassembly, replacement of parts, and assembly of complete rounds and component assemblies to assure compliance of product with specifications. Performs a variety of assignments in support of the assigned mission of ammunition surveillance division.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position.
  • Requires a valid state issued driver's license.
  • Requires a pre-employment physical and annual physical thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to pre-employment drug testing and random drug testing during employment.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a Non-Critical Sensitive (Secret) security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • Subject to the training, qualification, certification and re-training requirements of AR 700-28 for operations personnel involved in conventional and/or toxic chemical ammunition operations within 12 months of assignment.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an AMMUNITION INSPECTOR without more than normal supervision. Ability to Inspect, perform the most difficult and complex tasks of an Ammunition Inspector including operations that detect visual anomalies, using calibrated instruments (i.e. profile and alignment gauge). Interpret technical material to ensure inspection criteria is fulfilled. Inspect ammunition for serviceability and safety. Familiarization with basic computer operation and logistics programs. Perform mechanical and physical tests on ammunition and their components. I am skilled in knowledge of inspection techniques for munitions being maintained and preserved, modified, demilitarized, or subject to preservation or maintenance for quality standards. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal SupervisionAbility to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (Other Than Blueprint Reading)Dexterity and SafetyKnowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, and Repair, etc.Knowledge of MaterialsTechnical Practices (Theoretical, Precise, Artistic) PHYSICAL EFFORT: Frequently lifts items weighing up to 40 pounds and occasionally in excess of 40 pounds. May pull or push pallet jacks with loads of up to four thousand pounds. The work requires sitting, walking, bending, reaching/crouching, climbing, and long periods of standing. Work requires manual dexterity and mental, visual and muscular coordination. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed indoors or outdoors. Work areas are generally well lighted, ventilated and some are heated. Workers are required to stand on floors made of concrete, lead or conductive composition. They are required to wear protective clothing, i.e., gas masks, safety shoes, rubber gloves. They are regularly subject to dirt, noise, fumes, and variations of weather. They may be exposed to explosives and/or irritants, i.e., TNT, Comp B, CS, and CN.
