You will serve as a ALCOHOL ABUSE PREVENTION SPECIALIST in the Marine Corps Community Services Department, Marine and Family Programs of MARINE CORPS AIR STATION MIRAMAR.

Duties

You will conduct ongoing needs assessments of local military and civilian communities on alcohol situations, prevention, and needs. You will develop, coordinate, and submit recommendations to include plans and policies that reflect the relationships of chemical dependency. You will develop and present presentations and communicate well orally at command/senior officer level briefings, media representatives, and at professional training workshops. You will collaborate with various stakeholders to coordinate prevention efforts. You will utilize evidence based curriculums to provide prevention education on illegal drug use and alcohol abuse to military and families, support groups, and youth groups. You will participate in the early intervention program to deliver didactic portions of outpatient treatment tracking for substance abuse counseling centers, aftercare and pretreatment groups to address or reduce alcohol misuse. You will monitor program status through outreach and participate in command inspections to assist commands regulatory requirements. You will collect statistics to prepare and submit reports and project papers. You will assist the Drug Demand Reduction program with Unit inspections, pertaining specifically to the breathalyzer component.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You are required to possess and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
  • This position is designated as a Position of Trust, and the you must be eligible for a background check. Appointment and continued employment is subject to a favorable National Agency Check (NAC) Background Security Investigation.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Conduct assessments of local military and civilian communities, alcohol misuse, and preventions to develop, coordinate, and submit alcohol/substance abuse prevention plans; develop apply existing and/or new surveys to update the Substance Abuse Program (SAP); participate and organize events that offer preventions of abuse and create awareness and effects of life; conduct inspections to ensure compliance with policies and regulations; and develop presentations to diverse audience to influence, motivate and/or share to implement, discuss issues, advice to enhance the mission objectives. Education

Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess
  • Degree: behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position or
  • Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field or
  • Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
