About the Position: Serves as an Animal Health Technician with Public Health, Laboratory Division, Diagnostic Section located at Fort Sam Houston, TX

Duties

Performs duties primarily related to specimen receipt. Receives sample packages sent by remote clients. Conducts quality assurance reviews of specimen results. Receives requests for supplies from others in laboratory. Verifies goods and services provided and processes invoices for payment.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination required.
  • Mandatory Rabies vaccination required.
  • May require use of a uniform, protective clothing, or gear such as protective equipment, e.g., respirators, safety glasses, etc.
  • A National Agency Check w/ Inquiries (NACI) background investigation is required.
  • A one year probationary period may be required.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience in medical laboratory supply ordering, receiving, inspecting, and storing to include all record keeping and coordination with vendors. Expert skill in customer service. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours of courses such as, such as Veterinary Technology, Veterinary Medicine, Animal Science, and Biology or Zoology, Chemistry, or Agricultural subjects. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Customer Service (Clerical/Technical)Data Entry and AnalysisSupply Support
