This position is located in an organizational unit within the National Park Service (NPS). Park Ranger (Interpretation) enriches people's lives through meaningful experiences and enjoyable recreation; preserve and protect natural and cultural resources through broad collaboration and stewardship. Duties

The major duties of the Park Ranger (I), GS-05/07/09 position include but are not limited to the following: Research, develop, and present interpretive programs on subjects including Washington DC, area history, the Civil War, civil rights, natural history, astronomy, ecology, and the history of technology. Create, facilitate, and support opportunities for audiences to understand national significance and personal relevance through intellectual and emotional connections to resource meanings and their current context. Develop interpretive media (i.e. audiovisual and digital materials, website content, bulletins, brochures, signs, exhibits, etc.). Apply resourcefulness, judgment, and ingenuity, as well as a variety of interpretive skills, techniques and tools, to resolve diverse program issues and complete a wide variety of interpretive projects and assignments. Duties may include caring for live animals and plants, operating a water powered grist mill, and operating a planetarium. Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-06/03/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of specialized experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. For all other applicants who are not current federal employees, your resume must state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. To qualify for this position at the GS-05 grade level, you must possess all of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: tour leader assistant; environmental education teacher's assistant; deliver structured and informal presentations using various communication techniques to a limited audience. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least a 4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with 24 semester hours of related course work. You must include transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. You must include your resume with hours worked per week annotated, as well as transcripts. To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess some of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience must include all of the following: Park Guide or tour leader; environmental educator or teacher; deliver structured and informal presentations using various communication techniques to a variety of audiences; archeological or historical preservation research work involving presentations. Your resume must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least 1 full academic year of graduate education related to the occupation or superior academic achievement. To qualify for this position at the GS-09 grade level, you must possess some of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience must include all of the following: developing and presenting formal and informal audience and learner-centered interpretive programs using interpretive skills, techniques, and tools delivered in person; conducting research using scientific peer-reviewed sources on a variety of topics and synthesizing the knowledge gained from research to develop interpretive programs that are clearly consistent with the strategic goals and objectives of the organization's interpretive themes; contributing to written activities for non-personal services such as websites, youth activities, wayside exhibits, or publications; coordinating the development and implementation of special projects from beginning to end; or other similar work. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least 2 full academic years of progressively higher-level graduate education or master's or equivalent graduate degree related to the occupation. You must include transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. You must include your resume with hours worked per week annotated, as well as transcripts Documentation for the Land Management Workforce Flexibility Act (LMWFA) eligibility, submission of ALL SF-50s and performance information for each period of temporary/term employment that qualifies for LMWFA. Performance documentation can be obtained by contacting the supervisors for the positions you served in during your 24 months. If they did not complete performance appraisals ask them to provide a statement of performance for each period of service. The statement must specify the dates for each employment period and your level of performance (dates should match the dates on the SF-50s). You must include months, years and hours per week worked to receive credit for your work and/or volunteer experience. One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. Part-time hours are prorated. You will not receive any credit for experience that does not indicate exact hours per week or is listed as "varies". Experience listed as full-time will be credited at 40 hours per week. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
