You will serve as the Lead Systems Engineer for the Wind Tunnel Systems Branch, responsible for the overall architecture of facility instrumentation and data systems, and ensuring that these systems meet the requirements of the Unitary Plan Wind Tunnel customers and NASA missions.

Duties

Lead the design and integration of the facility instrumentation and data systems. Participate with management in setting overall requirements for these systems. Develop the overall architecture of the systems and define subsystem interfaces. Develop and implement engineering, maintenance, and operations strategies for facility test instrumentation and data systems to ensure their reliability and efficiency, minimizing downtime and extending the lifespan of assets. Lead the diagnosis and resolution of noncomformances, applying advanced technical knowledge to ensure swift and effective solutions, minimizing impact on facility operations. Implement corrective actions to prevent future problems. Ensure that the instrumentation and data system complies with NASA standards, including safety and systems engineering. Develop and maintain a process to ensure verification of system requirements. Specify a framework for staff to document the instrumentation and data systems, including requirements, engineering design specifications, operations manuals, maintenance records, and project reports. Prepare engineering reports and presentations to branch and division management documenting the status and capabilities of the instrumentation and data systems. Conduct regular reviews of Code AOI branch systems and processes, identifying opportunities for improvement, efficiency gains, and cost reductions. Stay abreast of emerging technologies, engineering techniques and industry trends, evaluating their potential application for enhancing facility operations. Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Education Requirement (in the Education section below), to qualify for this position you must meet the requirements below. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. NASA utilizes OPM-approved qualification and rating requirements specific for Aerospace Technology (AST) positions which recognizes NASA's unique aerospace work. The specific qualifications and minimum education requirements are further described below and within the education section of the job announcement. To qualify for GS-14, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level: Leading a team of systems engineers or engineers in the aerospace industry, carrying out activities such as: defining and organizing requirements, conducting trade studies, defining interface control documents, verifying requirements, troubleshooting problems across subsystems, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and procedures, or communicating with external stakeholders; Evaluating data acquisition, data reduction, or motion control systems in areas such as: design of the system, specification of components, system integration, or developing software for the system; Leading projects in an experimental test facility such as a wind tunnel, engine test facility, flight simulator, product evaluation laboratory, or flight test activity, or experience working on a spacecraft/aircraft development project. Education

Basic Education Requirement: You must have successfully completed a bachelor's degree with a major in one of the following:
a) Engineering from a college or university that has ABET accredited engineering programs
b) Physical Science, Mathematics, Life Science or other field of Science
c) Computer Science that included 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours of course work in any combination of mathematics, statistics and computer science with at least half of those hours in mathematics and statistics courses that included differential and integral calculus; and that provided an in-depth knowledge of theoretical and practical applications of computer science, including digital computer system architecture and system software organization, the representation and transformation of information structures, and the theoretical models for such representations and transformations.

If you did not complete a qualifying bachelor's degree, you may be eligible if you have obtained a graduate degree in an AST qualifying field, as listed above.

Degrees in engineering technology are not considered qualifying for this position.
