You will serve as a AIRCRAFT ATTENDANT in the AIRFIELD OPERATIONS DEPARTMENT of MARINE CORPS AIR STATION MIRAMAR.
Duties
You will meet, direct, and guide incoming aircraft into parking positions by means of a “follow-me” vehicle, hand signals, and/or wands.
You will Secure aircraft by using various locking devices, including wheel chocks, tie downs, grounding wires, intake/exhaust covers, and landing gear pins.
You will Set up and operate ground support equipment, including, but not limited to, tow tractors, mobile electric power plants, air start units, mobile aircraft stairs, external light carts, and auxiliary heating and cooling units, as required.
You will contact station fuels division to arrange for fueling and defueling of transient aircraft, attaches fuel hose from truck to aircraft.
You will perform gravity and pressure refueling procedures on transient aircraft as well as stands fire guard duty during refueling and defueling operation are being performed.
You will inspect for hazards and contraband to include palletizes, nets, weighs, and stages cargo and baggage.
You will operate, refuel, and perform routine inspections on ground support equipment, ensuring gear is operational and safe for use.
You will Tow or re-position aircraft using tow tractors into our out of hangers, ensuring wing walker safety personnel are used in close proximity of other aircraft and gear.
Requirements
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

- You possess and and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.
- This position is considered Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.
- This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
- This position requires rotating shift work.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Must be willing and able to work day or night shifts and a basic work week other than Monday through Friday.
- May be required to work in areas remote from air terminal.
Qualifications
Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to do the work without more than usual supervision: communicate with aircraft using hand and arm signals; conduct system checks and preventive maintenance; train on proper techniques for operation of airfield vehicles and ground support equipment, perform airfield inspections.
