About the position: This position will be assigned to the Moose Run Golf Course on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, AK. This is a Seasonal position Not-To-Exceed 31-OCT-2024. This position is Flexible, meaning you are guaranteed a minimum of 0 hours per week to a maximum of 40 hours per week. Your schedule will depend on needs of the facility.

Duties

The function of the organization where this position is located is in the official functional statements. The incumbent is responsible for the programming, operation and maintenance of the golf course irrigation system(s). DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Independently installs, modifies, repairs and maintains a variety of new and existing utility, supply and disposal systems and equipment associated with golf course irrigation systems. Plans and ensures the proper slant, slope, fall or level of installation to provide for proper flow, drainage and sanitary operating conditions and to prevent backflow, vacuum or air lock conditions. Maintains records and documents actions. Plans and accomplishes work from initial layout to final assembly which involves interpreting and applying building plans, specifications, blueprints, sketches and other plumbing guides/codes and using shop mathematics. Troubleshoots/tests various plumbing systems and equipment including backflow prevention devices such as reduced pressure principal devices, double check devices, atmospheric vacuum breakers and other cross connection devices. Uses and maintains tools such as tapes, rules, plumb bobs, hand and power pipe threaders, cutters, pipe wrenches, angle drills, hacksaws and power saws, power sewer cleaning equipment, various gas detectors and meters and lead pots. CONTROLS OVER WORK: The incumbent plans and completes work following the full range of accepted trades practices. Works from work orders, building plans, codes, shop sketches, blueprints and oral assignment instructions with little or no check during progress or upon completion. Completed work may be randomly checked for timeliness, meeting accepted trade practices, and customer satisfaction. OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS: Skill and Knowledge: Knowledge of various supply, disposal and utility systems associated with golf course irrigation systems. Skill in the use of plumbing tools and equipment such as rules, levels, plumb bobs, dividers, gauges and meters, drain cleaning devices, hydrostatic pumps and torches to make installations and repairs. Skill in independently troubleshooting and repairing hard to detect leaks and operating problems which require difficult or extensive repair. Ability to plan and lay out the installation and modification of various systems and equipment, for example, the routing, openings, slant and level of gas and water lines and the location and arrangement of water closets, sinks and emergency equipment. Physical Effort: The plumber makes repairs and installations in hard-to-reach places. This requires the employee to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. The plumber frequently lifts, carries and sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 40 pounds unassisted and over 40 pounds with assistance. Working Conditions: The work is usually accomplished outside and is dirty, dusty and greasy. The plumber is sometimes required to make repairs and installations outside in bad weather. There is the possibility of minor injuries such as scrapes, burns and infections; there is also the possibility of broken bones. May be required to wear safety equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hard hats and other personal protective equipment. Qualifying Experience: Must have experience which demonstrates knowledge of basic electricity and hydraulics related to irrigation systems, including automatic valves and controllers, and working knowledge of various types of pumps and pumping systems. Requires understanding of agronomy, turfgrass science and the rules of golf; knowledge of tools, methods and materials used in grounds and landscape area maintenance work; ability to operate light motorized equipment; and ability to follow oral and written directions. Required to lift, carry and set up parts and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted and over 40 pounds with assistance. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical. Requires a valid driver's license. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI). Must satisfactorily complete a pre-employment drug test.

Education
