About the Position: This position is located in U.S. Army Medical Department Activity (MEDDAC) Deputy Commander for clinical service, Fort Drum, NY.
Duties
Prioritizes treatments for patient having multiple problems and employs a variety of established emergency medicine techniques, methods, and equipment to the appropriate medical facility.
Performs operator maintenance on the vehicles and equipment, as required.
Respond on-site to accidents and other emergencies involving injury and illnesses, sometimes encounters situations which may be life threatening.
Perform procedures, as required, and in strict compliance with standing orders and protocols.
Conduct a complete examination of the patient to determine the nature, extent, and seriousness of his condition and searches for medical alert symbols.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
- Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
- One year trial/probationary period may be required.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
- This position is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. Applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to sign a statement consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- All Health Care Providers must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification that is sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position
- This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- This position may require use of protective clothing and/or uniform.
- This position may require rotating shift work, to include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: In order to qualify you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade/level GS-06 such as responding to accidents or emergencies involving injuries and/or illnesses; conducting examinations to obtain patient vital signs and operating a patient transport vehicle. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the feral service (GS-06).
Selective Placement Factor: This position requires a New York State Department of Health (NYSDoH) issued Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMT-P emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMT-P) certification.
And
This position ALSO requires you to possess and maintain a current Basic Life Support (BLS) Training and certification. Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).
