This National Guard position is for a PAINTING WORKER, Position Description Number D1217000 and is part of the MS CSMS, National Guard.
Duties
As a PAINTING WORKER, WG-4102-8, you will prepare and apply coating materials such as paints, varnishes, and rust proofing compounds on stationary and mobile equipment and on combat, tactical, and commercial vehicles. This position is located in the Joint Forces Headquarters-State, Logistics Directorate (J-4), Surface Maintenance Facility.
(1) Prepares surfaces (i.e., metal, wood and glass) by removing rust, paint, and loose particles. Sands and evens out dents and scars to assure a smooth and level surface using sanders, scrapers, sandpaper, wire brushes, and paint remover. Applies coatings to specified areas ensuring that that surfaces are free from skips, runs, and drips. Applies rustproof compound to areas such as splash panels, quarter panels, seams structural members, and underbody construction. Applies coatings using brushes, rollers, and spray paint equipment.
(2) Prepares coating materials by tinting, toning, etching, blending, and mixing in various additives (i.e., retardants, hardeners, drying agents, and other additives). Applies prime, intermediate and final coats of semi-gloss, gloss and other paint, lacquer, enamel, varnish and shellac. Ensures that match, texture and appearance meet finish requirements. Replaces and applies markings/lettering as specified by appropriate manuals
(3) Reads and interprets directions that relate to mixture, use, and application of various kinds of coating materials, solvents, and precoating agents.
(3) Applies Chemical Agent Reactive Coating (CARC) materials in accordance with specifications and dimensions. Cleans and maintains painting equipment.
(4) Performs other duties as assigned.

This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates the candidate's knowledge of surface preparation (removal of rust, dirt, paint, etc); coating methods (brushing, rolling, and spraying); and coating materials (paints, varnishes, shellacs, etc). Must have the ability to use tools and equipment associated with the painting trade and to read and interpret directions.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must possess at least 12 months of experience or training which demonstrates the candidate's knowledge of standard surface preparation and coating methods and techniques. Experience must demonstrate the skill to sand, wire brush, scrape, spackle, putty, prep surfaces and select appropriate tools to complete assigned tasks. Experience must also demonstrate the skill to brush on, roll on, and spray coating materials, and apply other related methods and techniques, such as cutting-in techniques and dip and overflow methods. Experience which required the applicant to interpret and follow technical orders, specifications and publications.
