Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations, Atlanta Field Office, Port of Atlanta, located in Atlanta, GA.
Duties
Joining the Customs and Border Protection Office of Field Operations will allow you to use your expertise to provide legal support of those executing the law enforcement duties at the port level. This position starts at a salary of $109,278.00 (GS-13, Step 1) to $142,065.00 (GS-13, Step 10).
Your duties will include:
Receiving, examining, and evaluating petitions from internal and external stakeholders
Providing technical training to all CBP employees, relative to the implementation of new and/or revised laws, regulations, and programs relevant to the Fines, Penalties and Forfeitures (FPF) process.
Applying in-depth knowledge of pertinent laws, CBP regulations and procedures in discussing petition rights and identifying the obligations of the petitioner
Serving as a FPF Officer performing and directing administrative and operational work of the FPF and Seized Property Program
Managing the movement, storage, manipulation, destruction, remittance and inventorying of seized property.
Qualifications
Experience: You qualify for the GS-13 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:
Reviewing and processing all cases within their area of authority through to final adjudication and solution
Assuring that the elements necessary in order to establish a violation are present and are supported by substantiated documentation
Developing and evaluating of evidence, facts, and circumstances and all other incidents and information relative to the case,
Identifying ways to improve work processes to improve productivity and quality of work performed.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
You must:
Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and
Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 05/24/2024.

Probationary Period: All employees new to the federal government must serve a one year probationary period during the first year of his/her initial permanent federal appointment to determine fitness for continued employment. Current and former federal employees may be required to serve or complete a probationary period.
