About the Position: Serves as Cook aboard a floating plant unit, living on the plant during the work week and preparing all meals for the crew each work day. Prepares, cooks, seasons, and portions food for all meals by following standardized recipes at different levels of difficulty.

Prepare all types of meats, poultry, seafood, vegetables, fruits, sauces, gravies, soups, and deserts. Bake pies, cakes, rolls, and breads. Cut meats and poultry into required rations. Assure food conforms to established food standards. Prepare menu items that require using special recipes that require numerous interrelated steps, many ingredients, and lengthy preparation time. Plans the preparation of entire meals. Responsible for keeping galley, mess hall, refrigerator, and storage areas in a clean and orderly condition.   • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.

Working Conditions- The work is performed in kitchen areas which are well lighted but are often hot and noisy. The incumbent is exposed to steam, fumes, and odors from cooking and to extreme temperature changes when entering walking refrigeration or freezing units. There is danger of slipping on wet floors that have been recently mopped or where food has been spilled. Subject to possible cuts from knives and burns from steam, hot foods, stoves, grease, and water.
