About the Position: Fort Myer is a 15 minute commute to/from the Arlington National Cemetery Metro Station, a 10-15 minute commute to/from the Rosslyn, Virginia Metro Station, and is accessible by bus transportation. The installation is 7 miles from Washington D.C. and a short distance from major roadways and express highways.
Duties
Serve as a Supervisory Police Officer (Watch Commander) with overall command and control responsibility for all law enforcement patrol desk, communications and administrative operations during assigned shift.
Maintain communications with mobile patrol units and posts and pass directions and information to subordinate law enforcement officers on patrol assignments.
Coordinate emergency responses between law enforcement, security, fire, and other emergency units.
Ensure proper response to various calls for law enforcement services at all levels (felony and misdemeanor) to include crimes in progress, citizen complaints, and emergency situations to include natural and manmade disasters.
Supervise investigations not referred to detectives in areas such as, but not limited to, thefts, assaults,, illegal drug possession and domestic disputes.

- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position is subject to a drug pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- This position has been designated "Mission Essential".
- This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
- Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
- This position requires certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation with Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training.
- This position requires successful completion of the United States Army Civilian Police Academy prior to assignment of law enforcement duties.
- This position has a requirement to carry a firearm and remain proficient in the use of assigned weapon by qualifying semi-annually.
- This position requires maintaining qualifications for the Individual Reliability Program.
- The position requires the employee to complete and pass a physical agility test on an annual basis.
- This position requires employee to wear a uniform that must be clean and possess a neat professional appearance.
- This position requires certification in the use of breathalyzer equipment.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) law enforcement operations, practice and techniques to prevent, detect and investigate violations of law, rules and regulations; 2) analyze emergency situations, and coordinate law enforcement activities, and 3) interpret regulations to determine the enforcement of appropriate laws. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-8).
