About the Position: The incumbent will serve as a Range Maintenance Worker at the Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization, and Security (DPTMS) in Fort Sill, OK.

Duties

Perform first and second echelon maintenance on assigned equipment. Ensure continual operation of systems to facilitate uninterrupted unit training. Operate computer systems. Construct, repair, install targets, signs, markers, and barriers. Perform range construction and maintenance. Maintain target pits, bunkers, and berms by clearing weeds and picking up debris.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must have or be able to obtain/maintain military vehicle operator permit.
  • Employee is subject to an irregular tour of duty which may span a 7 day, 24 hour operation.
  • Successful completion of a physical examination.
  • Must possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.

Qualifications

Position may be filled as a time-limited promotion, reassignment or change to lower grade not to exceed 1 year by a current permanent Army employee. Time-limited promotions may be extended up to a maximum of five years. Time-limited reassignments and changes to lower grade may exceed five years, however return rights may be impacted. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Range Maintenance Worker without more than normal supervision. Ability to conduct maintenance of grounds and facilities. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal SupervisionAbility to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading)Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and EquipmentKnowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)Trouble ShootingUse of Measuring Instruments Physical Efforts: This position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, stooping and climbing and lifting of equipment at or above 40 pounds (Medium Lifting). Routinely Lifting of parts and assemblies 70 pounds to occasionally 100 pounds (heavy lifting) with the assistance of another employee. At the WG-7 level the work requires frequent bending, climbing, reaching, standing and walking. Working Conditions: The work in this position is performed on firing ranges in all types of weather. Work subjects employee to hazards of high pressure lines and high voltage lines, cuts, bruises, shock and various kinds of bites. Protective clothing is worn. At the WG-7 level work is performed in an area outside, exposed to noise, dust, grease and the possibility of cuts, bruises and shock.
