ORGANIZATIONAL LOCATION: Department of Health & Health Human Services (HHS), Indian Health Service (IHS), Southwest Region, Phoenix Area - Quality Management Division - CRSU, Parker Indian Health Center. Position is located in Parker, Arizona and Supervised thru Quality Management Director. The position is primarily responsible for the development, administration, evaluation and documentation of all risk management and patient safety activities for the Service Unit.
Duties
Major Duties:
Manner that fulfills the mission and strategic goals of the service unit while complying with state and federal laws and accreditation standards related to safety and risk management.
Chairs the Patient Safety Committee and oversees the implementation of The Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals. Serves on the hospital wide committees including Environment of Care, Utilization Review/Medical Records, Quality Council, Clinical Practices Committee, Ethics Committee, Nurse Executive Team, Medical Management and Surgical.
Participates in the chart review process for the Clinical Process Measures (CMS) by abstracting data according to core measurement requirements.
Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below-
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-0610-11:
One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Leading multidisciplinary teams and groups addressing the investigation of healthcare incidents, errors and the development of corrective plans; informing executive management of potential and actual cases related to Administrative Tort Claims; providing feedback to managers at all levels of a healthcare operation to eliminate risks, and maintaining risk management statistics and case files, ensuring maximum confidentiality. OR
PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field.
GS-0610-12:
One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Management/patient advocate program in a hospital setting. Has performed data collection, analysis of quantitative and qualitative data to make informed decisions, quality assurance performance improvement data, and surveys to monitor the effectiveness of the Risk Management Plan; to be able to generate quality and comprehensive reports, analyze and present data for reporting requirements to executive leadership, governing body, and regulatory and accrediting agencies. Able to conduct root cause analysis or apparent cause analysis reviews using personal skills and unbiased approaches as it relates to patient centered care
