Duties
You will operate, clean, and maintain water pumping/treating equipment to purify and supply potable water for domestic and industrial use.
You will accomplish such water treatment processes as filtration, fluoridation, chlorination,
demineralization and ammonization.
You will operate a variety of automatic or manually controlled pumps and related equipment by adjusting valves to control rates of feed/various chemicals as well as water flow.
You will collect water samples for monthly water quality compliance testing, as well as for other testing purposes.
Requirements

- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

- This is a bargaining unit position.
- State Class D water system operator certification/license and state vehicle operator's permit is required.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
- Must successfully complete and maintain certification for Mississippi State Water and Pollution Control Operators course and required training courses in boiler operation and minor maintenance.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- This position is designated as essential. You will be required to report for duty to provide support before, during, and/or after special emergency situations, such as destructive weather, disasters, or periods of an increased security threat.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to do the work of a Water Treatment Plant Operator WG-5409-09 without more than normal supervision as demonstrated by 1) Using non-filtration processes to change the taste, odor, or chemical content of water in a water treatment plant; 2) Performing water treatment tests to check items such as pH level, turbidity, and fluoride and chloride content; 3) Performing repairs such as repacking valves and replacing vales and basic gauges; and 4) maintaining swimming pool water and chlorination levels.
