This position is located in the Division of Nursing Services, Branch of Walk In Primary Care Clinic at the Gallup Indian Medical Center (GIMC), Gallup, NM. The Lead Nurse evaluates the Nursing needs of patients, developing a plan of Nursing care, delegating duties to appropriate personnel, teaching and supervising their work as needed.

Duties

NOTE: Applicants must apply separately for each announcement in order to be considered.** Lead the team in identifying, distributing and balancing workload and tasks among employees in accordance with established workflow, skill level and/or occupational specialization; making adjustments to accomplish the workload in accordance with established priorities to ensure timely accomplishment of assigned team tasks; and ensuring that each employee has an integral role in developing the final team product Serves as a team leader and formulates work schedules. Ensures patient education occurs during the shift. Reviews and revises nursing care plans. Work in coordination with other lead nurses from other units. Serves as a resource person, provides guidance and leadership to staff. Monitor and report on the status and progress of work, checking on work in progress and reviewing completed work to see that the Supervisor's instructions on work priorities, methods, deadlines and quality have been met Provides nursing care within Walk In Primary Care Clinic scope of Practice. Applies the nursing process to patients of all ages requiring stabilization and/or resuscitation for a variety of illnesses and injuries. Consults with attending physicians and other staff members to determine and evaluate the kind of health and physical care needed. Reviews patient's chart and ensures the staff makes legible, accurate and complete nursing entries in the patient chart for all nursing care given by utilizing the Electronic Health Record (EHR). Provide assistance in facility emergent situation, delegating ICU staff to help as needed. Maintains professional knowledge and proficiency in Unit specific nursing knowledge and practice through continuing education to include: Unit specific certifications such as ACLS, ATLS, PALS, NERP; staff meeting attendance, attendance of outside and in-house workshops, especially mandatory training events. Participates in the preceptorship program as assigned.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing. A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education , Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. Experience: The work experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. At the GS-09 and above grade level, many positions may require experience in a specialty area of nursing. Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Basic Requirements for the Grade Level GS-10: At least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level or above) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-10: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Extensive experiences in nursing practice, service, and education; make independent judgments related to assignments, coverage and supervision; provide training and mentor nursing staff and provide input on evaluations Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
