You will serve as a SMALL ARMS REPAIRER in the Installation Security Department of NAVSTA NEWPORT SECURITY DETACHMENT.

Duties

You will interpret instructions and guides to assemble, disassemble, and adjust weapons. You will perform cleaning and maintenance on small arms weapons (e.g., revolvers, automatic pistols, shotguns, rifles). You will inspect weapon parts to determine if replacement is necessary. You will disassemble and reassemble weapons, subassemblies, or other components using instructions and guides. You will troubleshoot weapons to determine if replacement is necessary for parts.

• You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
• You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
• You must meet the qualifications and be certified to carry a firearm. You will need to maintain firearm proficiency.
• This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. You will be required to sign a DD-Form-2760, Qualification to possess firearms or ammunition.
• Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
• You will be required to wear safety clothing and equipment appropriate for the job and work area.
• Must gain access to NAVSEA PMS scheduling application and use this application to schedule preventive maintenance/document accomplishment of preventive maintenance.
• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

The Screen-out Element for this position is: I have the ability to perform common tasks under general supervision including 1) Disassembling, cleaning, and performing maintenance on small arms such as revolvers, automatic pistols, shot guns and rifles; and 2) Assembling small arms in accordance with instructions and manuals; 3) Manually operating small arm assemblies to check for proper action/operation.
