Duties
You will operate Fuel Distribution Systems equipment to control the movement of Petroleum Oil Lube (POL) products throughout extensive pipelines, fuel farms, and dispensing systems.
You will operate pumps and accessory equipment to receive, load, offload, transfer liquid fuels and similar products.
You will control and monitor all POL product movements within the Fuel Department using the Automated Fuel Handling Equipment (AFHE) and Bay Associates systems.
You will perform manual gauging of fuel tanks through use of plumb bob and tape, checks water content of tanks.
You will verify temperature readings of liquid fuels in tanks and convert to 60-degree F using applicable charts.
You will report gauge, pressure readings, volume of fuel transferred.
You will perform preventive and breakdown maintenance of fuel distribution system equipment.
You will operate assigned vehicles including Class A trucks and forklifts.

- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators, and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift when performing preventive maintenance.
- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
- You must have the ability to distinguish basic colors and shades of colors.
- You must obtain and maintain state and /or government operator licenses, certifications, and permits for all assigned vehicles and equipment and vehicles.
- You may be required to travel up to 25%.
- This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with HAZMAT endorsement within the timelines prescribed by the command.
- FLCSD will provide On-the-Job CDL training and testing to be completed during paid working hours, on a one-time basis. If you need to retake the testing, you must do so on your own (unpaid) time.
- FLCSD will reimburse the cost of successfully completed CDL testing.
Qualifications
To qualify your resume must show that you have the ability to perform the work of a WG-5413-10 Fuel Distribution Systems Operator as demonstrated through experience performing routine tasks working under normal supervision on common tasks and assisting with more complex tasks to include controlling and monitoring Petroleum Oil Lube (PLO) product movements throughout sections of pipelines, fuel farms, and/or dispensing systems; ; operating fuel distribution systems (FDS) by use of switches and valves, portable and stationary pumps, and accessory equipment; monitoring levels and pressures during transfer; conducting fuel gauging; computing fuel quantity based on temperature formulas; taking samples for testing; complying with laws and regulations for handling Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) including fuels; performing preventive and/or breakdown maintenance of a FDS.
