Duties

Total-Rewards-of-an-Allied-Health-VA-Career-Brochure.pdf Supervisory technologist is responsible for maintaining the fund control for the radiology section. Monitors the cost per imaging test, compares that cost with the costs of other VISN facilities as well as the national level. Strives to keep our costs equal to or better than the national costs pretest. Supervises technologists with grade levels of GS-11 and below. Instructs employees in specific job tasks and techniques. Ensures the availability of written standard operating procedures (SOP's) technologist workload expectations, written instructions to include establishing technical competencies that are assessed annually for each technologist. Administers VA personnel policies, which may include annual leave, scheduling assignments, and technologist selection. Delegates authority and closely supervises each of the general functional divisions of Radiology section: General Diagnostic Radiology, Special Procedures, Computerized Tomography, Mobile Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Ultrasound. Provides supervision and teaching of clinical radiology for students in the medical center's Radiology Technology School, attending the required clinical instructors' meetings of our affiliated schools. Supervises all aspects of the quality assurance/risk management functions of radiology and monitors compliance with all requirements of these programs as well as compliance with NHPP/NCR and OSHA regulations. Responsible for developing a quality assurance plan for the radiology department that meets· the JCAHO standards for peer review for both divisions. Qualifications

Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Certification: All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Radiography (ARRT) (R). Advanced ARRT certification is required for assignments that include computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), [or Mammography (M) duties performed independently, as applicable]. Advanced certification indicates that the incumbent [can operate independently] and has demonstrated specific clinical competency in the appropriate specialty and taken and passed the designated examination. [In modalities that require advanced certification, to support their continued development, technologists who do not possess an advanced certification may be provided on the job training with oversight from a certified radiologic technologist. Education: Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or from [other accrediting agencies as recognized by the Department of Education (DOE).] [NOTE: Assignment to the clinical program director requires meeting JRCERT minimum educational standards as noted in the assignment description.] Credentialing Standards: Public Law 97-35, the Consumer-Patient Radiation Health and Safety Act of 1981, requires that persons who administer radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75, Standards for the Accreditation of Educational Programs and the Credentialing of Radiographic Personnel. Essentially, they must have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in that regulation and is accredited by an organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and be certified as radiographers in their field. Grade Determinations GS-11: Experience. At least one year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level directly related to the position being filled that demonstrates the clinical competencies needed to provide services as a quality control technologist. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must also demonstrate all of the following technical KSAs: Ability to analyze organizational, technical, and administrative problems and to develop and implement solutions that result in efficient section operation. Ability to analyze and use data effectively to manage section workload, quality, performance, and productivity. Skill in problem solving and conflict resolution. Ability to supervise technologists performing a wide variety of difficult radiographic exams (CT, MRI, Special Procedures, Mammography, Ultrasound). Ability to interview and evaluate candidates for positions, evaluate subordinate performance, recommend appointments, advancements, or recommend or take appropriate disciplinary actions. Skill in participating in organizational facility initiatives, workgroups, and/or committees. Preferred Experience: Prefer Managerial/Supervisorial experience. Prefer advanced certification/s in CT, US, MRI and/or IR, etc. References: VA Handbook 5005/119 Part II, Appendix G25 The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-11. Physical Requirements: The individual must have the physical ability to perform job-related duties which require lifting, approximately 45 pounds, standing up to 6 hours, wearing PPE (Lead Apron) up to 6 hours, bending, transferring, stooping, stretching, walking, pushing, or pulling without assistance. A health examination must be successfully complete prior to this assignment and periodically thereafter as required by the Employee Health Clinic. See VA Directive and Handbook 5019.
