The employee will serve as the Time and Leave Clerk at the Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center, in Wilkes-Barre, PA. The purpose of this position is to provide primary timekeeping duties and a variety of clerical duties in support of the overall administrative functions for the Nursing Service at the VA.
Duties

Duties include, but may not be limited to the following:
Performs timekeeping and related duties using automated reporting system.
Ensures time sheets for employees are posted daily and accurately.
Provides customer service in person or by telephone.
Answers telephone and receives visitors in a prompt and courteous manner.
Assists employees in the preparation of correspondence for requesting leave; reconciles discrepancies in leave and payment, coordinates with the payroll office.
Interprets customer's inquiries and resolves discrepancies and complex problems.
Manages timecard corrections accurately and timely and assists supervisors in correcting timecard errors.
Maintains and manages databases which contain a wide variety of information.
Arranges travel orders, orders supplies and equipment.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00 am- 3:30 pm

Qualifications
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience that equipped them with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-4 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes: performing all timekeeping functions; maintaining and managing databases; reconciling discrepancies in leave and payment; providing administrative support; and providing customer service in person and by telephone.

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Successful completion of (4) years of education above the high school level. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. One year of full-time undergraduate study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial or technical school.

COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements.

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items such as papers, books or driving an automobile, etc. No specific physical demands are required to perform the work.
