Joining the Secret Service, Office of Investigations, Criminal Investigative Division will allow you to provide expert examination of U.S. currency and other U.S. Treasury obligations to determine authenticity, to include paper, inkjet ink, toner, security features, and other related materials.

Duties
The selectee will serve as anDocument Analyst in the Criminal Investigative Division. Typical work assignments include:
Conduct analytical examinations of U.S. currency and U.S. Treasury obligations, inkjet, toner, paper security features, plant suppressions and electronic crimes evidence.
Prepare oral and written reports that thoroughly, succinctly, and effectively explain analyses and findings.
Serve as a technical witness in federal, state and local courts regarding the scientific and technical examination conducted, and if applicable provide opinion testimony regarding case findings.
Respond to requests from crime laboratories, financial institutions, and forensic document examiners to discuss and present topics relating to the training of future experts.
Assist with research to resolve complex problems and controversial issues related to U.S. currency from a variety of sources.
Qualifications
Applicants must demonstrate that they meet the Minimum Qualification requirements as noted below:
Minimum Qualifications:
You qualify for the GS-09 level (starting salary $68,405.00) if you possess one of the following:
GS-09: Applicant must possess one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-07 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors) performing the following duties:
1. Supporting a team in research efforts related to counterfeit currency;
2. Monitoring the handling of evidentiary information to maintain integrity; and
3. Providing assistance in the processing of physical evidence (i.e. counterfeit notes). NOTE: Your resume must explicitly indicate how you meet this requirement, otherwise you will be found ineligible.
OR
Successful completion of a Master's or equivalent graduate degree; or (two) 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; or LL.B. or J.D., if related at an accredited college or university in in one of the following Major studies: physical and biological sciences, graphic arts, police science, criminology, or law. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your college transcripts (official or unofficial) to support your claim.
OR
A combination of specialized experience (less than one year) and graduate education (less than two years) that when combined equals 100% of the qualification requirement. NOTE: Only graduate education in excess of one year (generally 18 semester hours) may be used in this calculation. You must submit a copy of your college transcripts (official or unofficial) and your resume must explicitly indicate how you meet the experience, otherwise you will be found ineligible.
You qualify for the GS-11 level (starting salary $82,764.00) if you possess one of the following:
GS-11: Applicant must possess one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-09 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors) performing the following duties:
1. Utilizing laboratory instruments (including microscopy) to examine questioned documents;
2. Assisting in the research of trends or issues related to counterfeiting; and
3. Examining U.S. currency in order to assist in authentication. NOTE: Your resume must explicitly indicate how you meet this requirement, otherwise you will be found ineligible.
OR
Successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; or (three) 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; or LL.M., if related at an accredited college or university in in one of the following Major studies: physical and biological sciences, graphic arts, police science, criminology, or law. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your college transcripts (official or unofficial) to support your claim.
OR
A combination of specialized experience (less than one year) and graduate education (beyond 2 years of graduate education), that when combined equals 100% of the qualification requirement. Note: Only graduate education in excess of two years (generally 36 semester hours) may be used in this calculation. (NOTE: You must submit a copy of your college transcripts (official or unofficial) and your resume must explicitly indicate how you meet the experience to support your claim).
Time-in-Grade Requirements: Under competitive merit promotion procedures, any individual who is currently holding, or who has held within the previous 52 weeks, a General Schedule position under a non-temporary appointment in the competitive or excepted service, must meet "time-in-grade" requirements (have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade of the grade for which you are applying). Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to current employees applying for a Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. NOTE: All current or former Federal employees must provide a copy of their SF-50 (you may need to submit more than one), "Notice of Personnel Action" that indicates proof of status and time-in-grade eligibility. The SF-50 must include your position, title, series, grade, step, tenure (1 or 2), and type of service (Competitive or Excepted).
