This position is located at the Lower Brule Service Unit in Lower Brule, SD within the Division of Health Information Management. The purpose of this position is to perform duties related to receipt, scanning, indexing, and filing of non-electronic medical and administrative information/forms. The incumbent will report to the Health Information Management Supervisor or designee.
Duties
Review medical records for completeness, accuracy, and compliance.
Process release of information (ROI) requests.
Scan medical documents into the electronic health record (EHR).
Perform chart analysis/audits on all medical record documentations.
Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
GS-04: Two (2) years of education above the high school level OR one (1) year of general experience.
GS-05: Four (4) years of education above the high school level OR one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
Assemble medical hard charts in proper sequence ensuring all necessary forms and documents are present; Scan documents into an electric health record (EHR) using vista imaging capture and display software; Perform tasks related receipt, scanning, indexing, and filing patient records according to hospital policy, procedure, and accreditation standards; Retrieve, deliver, and re-file medical hard charts; Process routine requests for release of information (ROI); Prepare correspondence for fax, mail or personal pickup.
GS-06: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
Analyze and review medical documents/records for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with hospital policy, procedure, and accreditation standards; Utilize Resource and Patient Management System (RPMS) for chart audit purposes; Process Release of Information (ROI) requests; Scan medical documents into the electronic health record (EHR) using Vista imaging software.
General Experience
Progressively responsible clerical, office or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of this position.
Specialized Experience
Knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
