Duties

NSF Student Program Specialists play a key role in applying analytical and evaluative techniques to identify business process problems with a focus on supporting program and division budget activities. Some duties include: Performing a variety of duties associated with proposal processing including redacting panel reviews/summaries (non-scientific), identifying conflicts of interest (COI), and responding to correspondence and telephone calls regarding proposal policies and systems Gathering data for analysis and information sharing and conduct qualitative analyses Troubleshoot systems and provide system support for basic applications Provide budget support to include creating and monitoring the budget spreadsheets and conducting financial analysis. NSF Student Program Analysts perform a variety of analytical assignments in support of special or on-going projects that involve administrative program reviews and organizational studies. Qualifications

In addition to the above appointment requirements, students MUST meet the qualification requirements below: To qualify at the GS-05 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-4 level in federal service performing administrative support functions to ensure efficient operations. OR have successfully completed four full years of education above high school level; OR have a combination of post-high school education and experience that together meet the qualification requirements for this position. Examples of Specialized experience for the GS-5 level include: identifying problems, gathering data, and recommending solutions; planning and organizing work; and communicating with various audiences orally and in writing. To qualify at the GS-7 level, you must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 level in the Federal service performing administrative and/or analytical support functions in support of program operations. OR have completed one full academic year of graduate-level (12 semester hours) education; OR have a Bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement (as evidenced by class standing in the upper third of the graduating class; 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale for all academic work; grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale in the major field of study; or election to membership in a national honor scholastic society). OR have a combination of post-high school education and experience that together meet the qualification requirements for this position. Examples of Specialized experience for the GS-7 level include: collecting data and evaluating information, reviewing budget data to monitor expenditures, and assisting with database queries. To qualify at the GS-9 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in federal service performing a variety of administrative, technical, and analytical support functions to assess and improve the efficiency of operations. OR have successfully completed A master`s or equivalent graduate degree. OR have 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree. OR have a combination of post high school education and experience that together meet the qualification requirements for this position. Examples of Specialized experience for the GS-9 level include: engaging in ongoing analysis of business processes to continually identify and recommend solutions to problems; developing and presenting factual evidence both in writing and before an audience to support enhancements in the methods of performing work; reviewing data for trends related to business processes, interpreting those trends, and determining causes and possible courses of action; Experience refers to paid & unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) & other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills & can provide valuable training & experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

Education may be substituted for experience as described in "Qualifications."

If qualifying based on education, you must submit TRANSCRIPTS (unofficial copies are acceptable) or a DIPLOMA that verifies that the requirement is met.

All education must be accredited by an accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications (particularly positions with a positive education requirement.) Therefore, applicants must report only attendance and/or degrees from schools accredited by accredited institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. PLEASE NOTE: Certificate program is defined as post-secondary education in a qualifying educational institution equal to at least one academic year of full-time study that's part of an accredited college-level, technical, trade, vocational, or business school curriculum.
