Duties
Serve as an advisor to personnel, internal, and external, on Paper Record Tracking utilization.
Oversee the Medical Correspondence Section.
Advise and monitors medical records procedures.
Process incoming requests for medical information and verify that proper authorization for release of medical information is included with the request
Serve as the supervisor, Outpatient Medical Records Branch (OMRB), Release of Information (ROI), Admissions and Dispositions (A-D) and Outpatient Records Room in the Patient Administration Division (PAD).
Supervise medical records clerks carrying out medical record administration services, to include adherence to program requirements for ambulatory patient care and Joint Commission (TJC).
Serve as advisor to management on all phases of outpatient medical records maintenance to include verification of eligibility requirements for patients seeking care at Military Treatment Facilities (MTFs).
Review existing forms/reports to eliminate unnecessary and obsolete ones, to combine, improve, reduce, or increase their frequency of submission.
Perform the duties as the Site Manager for the Defense Eligibility Enrollment Reporting System (DEERS).
Direct the work of subordinate employees.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- One-year supervisory probationary period required. A one-year probationary period is required if the selectee has not previously met this requirement.
- Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.

Basic Requirement for Supervisory Medical Records Technician:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing medical record audits for inconsistencies and/or omissions and maintaining patient medical records in accordance with facility policy.This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
