This position is a Park Ranger, GS- 0025-7/9 working in Crystal River, FL for the R4-Chassahowitzka National Wildlife Refuge.
Duties
As a Park Ranger your duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:
Responding to customers' inquiries for information, direction, and/or guidance; greeting customers and answering questions, and directing customers with problems, questions, or complaints to the appropriate person.
Monitoring visitor facilities for safety, cleanliness and accessibility and performing routine maintenance on visitor service facilities.
Assists in administering the volunteer program by recruiting, training, supporting, monitoring, evaluating, recognizing, and supervising volunteers for the Complex.
Assists with the preparation of press releases to keep the public abreast of refuge program and activities. Works with the Refuge Manager to ensure that Service standards, guidelines, and policies are followed in the production of all communication media including film, publications, and web pages.
Work with a variety of partners to establish and maintain a local youth and urban conservation program.

Qualifications
Only experience and education obtained by 05/30/2024 will be considered.
In order to qualify for this position you must possess the Minimum Qualification.
Minimum Qualification [GS-07]
One year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility equivalent to grade GS-05 in the Federal service. Examples of specialized experience may include: assisting in preparing and conducting environmental education/interpretive programs; assisting with the training of volunteers in a natural resources setting; acting as a liaison with community organizations, friends groups, and other organizations to provide orientation to a natural resources program; assisting with the management of recreation opportunities such as hunting, camping, fishing, and hiking; assisting with the development of interpretive materials, such as brochures, guidebooks, handouts, and exhibits. OR
Completed 1 full academic year of graduate level education leading to a Masters degree or equivalent degree with the major study in courses related to the duties of this position. Examples of this type of study include natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. You must submit copies of your college transcripts. OR
Possess a combination of specialized experience as described in response 1 above and education as described in response 2 above. (Determine the percentage of qualifying specialized experience you possess and determine the percentage of qualifying education you possess. Add the two percentages together. The total percentage must equal at least 100% in order to qualify based on a combination of experience and education). This experience is described in your resume/application and you must submit copies of your college transcripts. OR
Completed all the requirements for a bachelors degree and possess Superior Academic Achievement (SAA). Meet one of the following: had a 3.0 average (on a scale of 4.0) based on the average of all completed college courses at the time of application or courses completed during the final 2 years of undergraduate curriculum OR had a 3.5 average or higher out of a possible 4.0 based on the average of all completed college courses at the time of application or course completed during the final 2 years of undergraduate curriculum OR you were elected to a national scholastic honor society. If qualifying for SAA based on grade point average no more than 10% of course work may be graded on a pass/fail or non-traditional grade basis. You must submit copies of your college transcripts.
Minimum Qualification [GS-09]
One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level. Examples of specialized experience may include: developing and conducting environmental education or interpretation programs; developing and managing partnerships with community organizations and corporations; leading and staffing a visitor center operation; utilizing natural resources and public use related laws, regulations, policies, standards, or procedures to lead a visitor services program. OR
Have 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree - Major study: natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. NOTE: Transcripts required. OR
Possess a combination of qualifying specialized experience and more than one year of graduate education (both as described above) that, when computed as percentages of their respective requirements, equals at least 100% when combined. Only graduate education beyond the first full year (18 semesters) is creditable using this method. NOTE: Transcripts required, and your resume must contain sufficient information, e.g., complete begin/end dates, work schedule, duties performed, etc., for each period of work for consideration to meet this standard.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
PROOF OF EDUCATION: All applicants who are using education or a combination of education and experience to qualify must submit copies of official or unofficial transcripts which include grades, credit hours earned, major(s), grade point average or class ranking, institution name, and student name. If any required coursework is not easily recognizable on transcripts, or if you believe a portion of a particular course can be credited toward meeting an educational requirement, you must also provide a memorandum on letterhead from the institution's registrar, dean, or other appropriate official stating the percentage of the course that should be considered to meet the requirement and the equivalent number of units. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable; however, if you are selected for the position, you will be required to produce the original official transcripts.
PASS/FAIL COURSES: If more than 10 percent of your undergraduate course work (credit hours) were taken on a pass/fail basis, your claim of superior academic achievement must be based upon class standing or membership in an honor society.
GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.
