This position is located in the Mental Health Department, Dzilth-na-o-dith-Hle Health Center, Bloomfield, NM. Incumbent is responsible for administrative and clerical work of a specialized nature and typing assignments involving specialized terminology in support of the Mental Health Department. Includes interviewing patients to obtain pertinent patient registration information and medical support duties associated with patient care and treatment in the mental health services clinic area.
Duties
Performs receptionist, record keeping, and miscellaneous clerical duties associated with patient care and treatment in the mental health service clinic.
Receives patients and visitors to the clinic and determines the source of call and/or visit.
Obtains and requests medical charts from the Medical Records Section.
Answers questions regarding clinic hours and services and maintains an inventory of all office supplies.
Maintains control of incoming and outgoing correspondence and action documents and follows up on work in process to ensure timely reply or action.
Assists in arranging for patient's admission to other health facilities and in arranging for flight or transportation.
Types a variety of material, including progress reports, monthly reports, and memoranda.
Responsible for format, punctuation, grammatical accuracy, and spelling for results with an efficient and pleasing layout for all correspondence.
Maintains Timekeeping for designated staff and completes all government travel and training authorization forms.
Coordinates GSA vehicles assigned to the section; completes mileage reports and ensures the maintenance of vehicles.
Must be able to interpret difficult medical terminology.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples include: Examples include: Use of automated timekeeping systems to process pay and leave records; Knowledge of medical, technical, or specialized terms when communicating with patients and professional staff to explain regulations and procedures; Use of automated patient registration systems to update patient records.

4 years of education above the high school level.

COMBINATION EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. For GS-05, only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e. beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
