This position is located within the Social Work Service for the Caregiver Support Program at the Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center in Wilkes-Barre, PA. The Program Support Assistant provides programmatic and management support and actively participation in the coordination and completion of administrative tasks by performing varied work.
Duties

The major duties include but are not limited to:
Provides phone, message, and consult tracking duties;
Provides patients approved information, including but not limited to program eligibility, benefits, and services;
Schedules clinic appointments;
Schedules and attends department meetings, records minutes, and schedules outreach events;
Collects, complies, and tracks statistical information;
Receives, scans, and processes documents and reports;
Attains and maintains computer skills on a variety of software programs;
Collects, enters, and manages data, included patient and program data;
Maintains and manages databases;
Verifies that funds are available for Caregiver Support Programs and Social Work Service Fund Control Points;
Ensures obligations increases and decreases are submitted and monitored; and,
Performs all other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position at the GS-5 level, you must meet one of the following:
Experience: You must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-4) in the Federal Service that has given you the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of a Program Support Assistant, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience is experience performing a full range of administrative support for an office; receiving visitors and phone calls; reviewing all incoming and outgoing correspondence; scheduling appointments and meetings; preparing a range of correspondence and reports; and utilizing office automation software such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates, AND hours worked per week. ~OR~
Education: Successfully completed four (4) years of education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college, or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. Combination: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education (beyond the second year) and specialized experience, as described above, which meet the total experience requirements for this grade level. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college, or university. IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: The work of the position is primarily sedentary, but occasional walking to all parts of the VA Medical Center is required.
The work is typically performed in an adequately lighted and climate-controlled office. Note: The position may require participating in Drive Through Food Pantry and Adopt a Veteran Programs.
