This position is located in the Office of Intramural Research (OIR), Office of the Director (OD), National Institutes of Health (NIH), Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
Duties
Develops and implements activities and programs to educate the research community regarding the responsible conduct of research, promotes research integrity and prevents research misconduct.
Maintains current knowledge of statutes, regulations, policies and developments in federal Initiatives concerning scientific integrity.
Serves as an expert resource on bioethics issues and monitors bioethics literature pertaining to the conduct of intramural research at NIH.
Develops and implements policies, procedures and regulations related to the detection, investigation, and prevention of research misconduct and the responsible conduct of research.
Conducts forensic data analysis and prepares a final report of findings and recommendations.
Serves as a primary point of contact to Intramural Research Program investigators regarding research misconduct.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship requirement or proof of being a U.S. National must be met by closing date.

Qualifications
In order to qualify for a Research Integrity Officer, GS-0601 position, you must have completed a Bachelor's degree, or graduate/higher level degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of this position. (This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained).
In addition to the requirement above, in order to qualify at the GS-14 level: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: providing technical leadership for overseeing the resolution of biomedical research misconduct allegations and promoting research integrity in a biomedical setting; conducting forensic data analysis and tracking and protecting sequestered evidence through the life cycle of a misconduct proceeding; developing and implementing policies, guidelines, procedures and internal controls that govern the functions of scientific research integrity; evaluating the impact of new or proposed legislation or policies that may affect the oversight of research integrity; AND providing training and outreach to scientific and program officials regarding research integrity and compliance policies and procedures.
