This position is located in the Diagnostic Medical Imaging Department at the Whiteriver Indian Hospital, Whiteriver, Arizona. The Technologist receives patients and performs a variety of complex radiologic examination through use of Computerized Tomography scanner and x-ray equipment to include fluoroscopy.

Duties

Incumbent schedules patients for examination. Evaluates requests for critical and/or emergency procedures and changes the schedule to accommodate patients of a higher priority. Maintains required records of patient's treated, examinations performed, films/scans taken, etc. Maintains the C.T. Scan archive library. Responsible for maintaining all necessary paperwork regarding radiology patients. Technologist will be responsible for using Direct Capture to transmit C.T Images to various facilities for interpretations. Formatting and producing hard copies for permanent files will be required for indicated examination. Receives patients and explains examinations to be performed and methods request has been made by the proper authority. Assures that patients are properly attired and prepared for requested examination. Positions patient and makes the required exposure for examinations. Performs special (complicated) procedures on critically ill and injures patients for whom accuracy and efficiency of the diagnostic procedure are critical; recommends deviations from the standard for positioning and technique manipulation. Performs radiologic studies (Radiography, fluoroscopy, and CT) for diagnosis to assist clinicians during emergency and routine exams utilizing highly specialized equipment.

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Note: Public Law 97-35 requires that persons who administer radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75. Essentially, they must (l) have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in that regulation, and is accredited by an organization recognized by the Department of Education, and (2) be certified as radiographers in their field. The following meet these requirements: (l) Persons employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel prior to the effective date of the regulation (January 13, 1986) who show evidence of current or fully satisfactory performance or certification of such from a licensed practitioner such as a doctor of medicine, osteopathy, dentistry, podiatry, or chiropractic who prescribes radiologic procedures to others.(2) Persons first employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel after the effective date of the regulation who (a) received training from institutions in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not accredit training in that particular field at the time of graduation, or (b) practiced in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not license that particular field or did not allow special eligibility to take a licensure examination for those who did not graduate from an accredited educational program, provided that such persons show evidence of training, experience, and competence as determined by OPM or the employing agency. All applicants, however, must meet the requirements below. Specialized Experience For positions at GS-4 and above: Experience in the operation of diagnostic radiology equipment under the direction of radiologists or other medical officers to produce radiographic studies used in medical diagnosis and treatment. or Education and Training: Qualifying educational programs for radiography and radiation therapy technology are available in accredited colleges, universities, hospitals, medical schools, or postsecondary technical or vocational schools. Education or training from programs based in hospitals must have been from those hospitals that were accredited at the time of the education or training by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals or by the American Osteopathic Association. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:GS-10: Independently performing a full range of advanced computerized tomography examinations involving special and complicated procedures. Full responsibility and performance of a variety of specialized diagnostic and treatment procedures and technical aspects of the specialization; involves diverse and complex technical problems, instructing in the operation of equipment; adapt the instrument to the patient and/or select procedures based on patient's physical condition; and respond to emergencies and make recommendations to physicians based on observation of patient's response. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
