This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: As an Electronic Systems Control Craftworker, you will perform installation, modification, maintenance and repair of digital electronic equipment and associated devices related to data collection, control, and communication systems at multipurpose hydroelectric facilities.

Duties

Maintain a variety of electronic systems that monitor and control power generation, water control, and auxiliary equipment. Perform installation, modification, maintenance, and repair of digital and analog electronic equipment. Maintain network devices and communication systems necessary to remotely operate facilities and equipment from a central control location. Perform high voltage industrial electrician maintenance duties. Hold and maintain safe clearances under the lockout/tagout program. Develops standard practices for installation, upgrade, inspection, testing and preventive maintenance of electronic systems. Performs all WECC/NERC required maintenance on computerized based control system for 29 generating units.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License.
  • Pre-employment and annual physical is required (to include distinguishing color and calibrations and appropriate hearing capability for conversations and warning signals).
  • Pre-employment drug screening is required.
  • Information Assurance Technician II level certification is required within 6 months of appointment.

Qualifications

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a ELECTRONIC SYSTEM CONTROL CRAFTWORKER without more than normal supervision. You must have the ability to perform common tasks of the Electronic System Control Craftworker. I have the ability to assemble, install, repair, maintain, and testing real-time digital electronic control computer hardware and software, and digital electronic control equipment. I receive oral instructions as the nature of repairs, installation, or maintenance to be made, and can proceed to carry out the work, receiving advice and assistance as required, in cleaning, making adjustments and/or repairs, calibration, and retest of equipment including various relays, meters, recorders, controllers, indicators, radio transmitters and receivers, oscillators and amplifiers, electronic relays and other electronic and communication equipment. Must work under normal supervision of a supervisor or work leader who reviews work for completion. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT: The incumbent handles heavy parts and equipment and works in cramped quarters in tiring positions. Physical effort requires climbing stairs and ladders, and lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling and twisting objects frequently weighing up to, and occasionally over, 45 pounds, and standing for long periods of time on hard surfaces. Ability to work in awkward positions requiring bending, stooping, kneeling, pushing, pulling and twisting. A high degree of concentrated mental and visual attention is necessary to determine cause of trouble and to plan and carry out corrective action; to interpret complex drawings; and to coordinate a high degree of manual dexterity with close visual attention for sustained periods. Ability to distinguish colors is essential. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works both inside and outside the powerhouse other structures, and outdoors. Outside work subjects employee to usual climate conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow). Work is often unpleasant due to weather, dirt, grease, dust, high noise levels, etc. There is danger of serious injury or death if employee contacts energized equipment and danger of drowning when working above swift moving water. May work with a variety of toxic or caustic materials. Required to work in concrete structures. There is a possibility of cuts, burns, falls, and electrical shock Employee is subject to the discomfort of wearing required safety equipment such as ear plugs, hard hats, gloves, safety glasses, safety harness, etc. Must wear appropriate safety equipment and protective clothing, and successfully complete and maintain all occupational health requirements.
