This position is located in the Housekeeping unit of the Environmental Management Service at the Miami Veterans Affairs Healthcare System. The employee performs a variety of duties and assignments related to the supervision of an assigned group of Employees, responsible for carrying out duties involving Custodial, Janitorial, Housekeeping, and Sanitation activities to ensure a safe and healthy environment for the treatment and care of our patients.
Duties
The employee supervises, plans, directs and administers custodial, janitorial, housekeeping and sanitation activities as well as provides housekeeping coverage for one or more assignments necessary to complete the job. Is responsible for the direct supervision of Housekeeping Aides, WG-2, WG-3, . Housekeeping Work Leaders WL-2, WE-3 and also in addition, students, Incentive Therapy patients and other manpower resources.
Conducts and documents Quality Assurance sanitation Inspections and takes appropriate steps to correct deficiencies. Assures the safety of subordinates and ensures all instructions are completed with due diligence.
Resolves routine problems by discussion with Nurse Managers, Supervisors, and stake holders within the medical center. Keeps Assistant Chief informed of matters needing further escalation including possible changes in established policy or procedures, He/She may be called upon to perform other duties to meet emergency workload requirements or patient centered projects.
The employee has the full range of responsibilities including orientation to hospital cleaning requirements, proper usage of cleaning supplies to include buffers, shampooing machines, scrubbing machines, and polishers. This includes work assignments, daily monitoring, and performance counseling, on the job training, positive motivation building, and formal performance evaluating. Recommends and formally proposes incentive awards, and disciplinary actions for assigned subordinates. Manages scheduling for appropriate coverage, and approves- disapproves leave requests.
Work Schedule: 2nd Shift from 3:30PM - 12:00AM. Will require rotating call coverage, weekdays, nights, weekends and/or holidays.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: The employee must be able to continuously walk, stand, stoop, bend, lift, stretch, grasp. climb ladders , and scaffolds. Will be required to demonstrate utilization of heavy equipment, weighing 35-501bs. Pulling and pushing is equal in weight at 35-501bs
WORKING CONDITIONS: The employee must performs duties in dusty areas, wet floors, and in biological and unsanitary environments that mat be hazardous and therefore must practice and instruct methods for personal protective equipment and evident safety and sanitation procedures,
