About the Position: As a board certified, credentialed, licensed and privileged independent practitioner incumbent, directs the Podiatrist Residency Program for Womack Army Medical Center and serves as a health care provider.

Duties
Serves as Director of Podiatric, responsible for the day-to-day administration of the Podiatric Residency at Womack Army Medical Center.
Performs examinations, diagnostic procedures and treats of prescribes courses of treatment for patients suffering from diseases, injuries, or disorders of the foot and ankle.
Obtains a detailed podiatric history from patients having podiatric problems involving emergency, elective, routine, or complex surgical procedures and prescribes courses of treatment for each case.
Exercise privileges to write and prescribe appropriate medications including analgesics and narcotics, rehabilitative exercises, footwear, orthoses, and prostheses.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
- This position is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. Applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to sign a statement consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- A pre-placement medical examination is required.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
- Must be board eligible for certification by the American Board of Podiatric Surgeons; and must meet Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements.
- Must maintain membership in good standing with CASPR, COTH, APMA, Federal Service Podiatric Medical Association and Diplomat status with The American Board of Podiatric Surgery.
- A full, current, and unrestricted license to practice podiatric medicine in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
- Work is subject to rotating shifts and/or irregular tour of duty to include weekends, nights, and/or holidays.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
- Position is designated as Inclement Weather Essential. The incumbent must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.
- Employee will be required to wear and use personal protective equipment as required and provided by the employer.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and specialized experience requirements described below. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirements
Degree:Successful completion of at least a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) from a school of podiatric medicine accredited by the American Podiatric Medical Association's Council on Podiatric Medical Evaluation (APMA) at the time the degree was obtained. You MUST attach a copy of your transcript(s).
AND
Licensure: Successful completion of the National Board of Pediatric Medical Examiners (NBPME) or the American Podiatric Medical Licensing Examination (APLME) and a current, active and unrestricted license to practice podiatric medicine from a U.S. State, District of Columbia, Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. This position requires a job-related license or certification. You MUST submit a copy of your license or certification with your application package or you will be rated ineligible.
AND
Experience: In addition to meeting the above education and licensure requirements, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in the job. The Specialized Experience is at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service which includes 1) providing emergency room services in support of orthopedics involving serious injuries to the foot and ankle; and 2) performing complex surgeries that involve the midfoot, and ankle; and 3) performing routine surgeries involving the digits and metatarsals; and 4) preparing operative reports describing the surgical findings and procedures.
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted
