Serves as the Occupational Health Officer for Stennis Space Center (SSC) in the Environmental and Health Services Office, responsible for performing a variety of professional and scientific work in industrial hygiene, health physics and occupational health functions. You will anticipate health hazards; recommend preventive measures and prescribe procedures to eliminate, reduce or abate occupational health hazards in the working environment and ensure conformance regulations.
Duties
Serves as the Industrial Hygiene (IH) Officer, maintaining oversight of Federal regulatory and Agency-level requirements; develops, implements, and maintains Center-level IH programs to ensure compliance and provide a safe workplace.
Provides oversight on the Health Physics (HP) site programs, ensuring employee safety at work.
Manages and oversees the food sanitation program for the Center.
Supports the administration of the occupational medical clinic and employee assistance programs for the Center.
Coordinates the Center's IH, HP and Ergonomics committees; chairs the Center's HP Working Group.
Represents Stennis Space Center on NASA agency working groups (IH, HP, Food Safety, Ergonomics, and the agency’s hazardous materials) and advisory panels to include the NASA Institutional Safety and Health Board.
Coordinates the development, selection, and oversight of Government-provided Industrial Hygiene services, ensuring IH policy requirements are captured in contractor Performance Work Statements.

Qualifications
Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
To qualify for GS-14, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level.
Serving as a subject matter expert applying Industrial Hygiene principles to develop mitigation approaches for a variety of occupational health hazards;
Providing guidance and consultation for concepts, principles, or practices of Health Physics to ensure employee safety;
Providing oversight of occupational medical clinics and employee assistance programs.
Note: The ideal candidate has experience practicing as a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH). This experience is highly preferred but not required.

Education
You must have successfully completed a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science.
OR
Have successfully completed a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's degree that included a major in engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene.

Have a Certification from the
American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH).
