This is a Term position NOT TO EXCEED (NTE) 366 days and may be extended up to a total of eight years.
This is an obligated position.
Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service.
Duties
Develop and implement complex, goal-oriented treatment plans for patients presenting with a multiplicity of dysfunction and impairments in physical, functional and adaptive areas
Apply a wide range of physical therapy concepts, principles, and/or methodologies used in care and/or treatment of general/acute patients.
Provide recommendations and guidance for continued treatment, home programs, reconditioning, physical health, functional and adaptive activities.
Develop appropriate evaluation, treatment plans, and recommendations regarding physical requirements, reconditioning, function, fitness, and goals for retention in military.
Design treatment plans to meet patient/clinical objectives to maximize restoration of physical and adaptive roles and functions.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
- Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
- Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
- Moderate to heavy lifting up to 40 pounds is required.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirements for Physical Therapist:
Education: A graduate (or higher level) degree that included a physical therapy curriculum approved by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or a professional accrediting organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained, and completion of the clinical requirements prescribed by the school.
AND
Licensure: Applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physical Therapist from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and must have passed the National Physical Therapy Examination administered by the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy.
Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0633 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status.
In addition to meeting the basic requirements above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting physical therapy patient evaluations, developing physical therapy treatment plans, and providing education to patients or staff. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
This is a TERM position NTE one year. This appointment has a not-to-exceed date of 366 days from the date of hire. However, the appointment may be extended up to eight (8) years. Appointment in this position does not provide competitive status to apply for permanent positions. This position has the potential for subsequent conversion to a career-conditional or career appointment without further competition, if all requirements under authority of section 9902(b)(2) of title 5, U.S.C. have been met.
This position may be filled as a Temporary Promotion or a Temporary Reassignment and may be extended for current Department of Defense employees NTE 8 Years. At the end of the TERM appointment, you will return to your permanent position of record, or to a different position of equivalent grade and pay. If the selectee is not a current permanent DOD employee. Term appointments may be extended up to a maximum of 8 years.
This is an obligated position. Occupancy of this position is limited to the return of a former incumbent with statutory reemployment rights under 10 U.S.C. 1586. An obligated position is one to which an employee has statutory restoration rights or entitlement based on active military service, recovery from a compensable injury, or return rights based on an overseas tour. You will be asked to sign an agreement acknowledging that you are aware of the obligation and willing to be displaced under reduction in force procedures upon the return of the former incumbent.
