This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, United States Coast Guard, National Vessel Documentation Center, Falling Waters, WV.

Duties

As a Vessel Documentation Clerk, this position performs clerical services to technical, administrative and management personnel.  Responsible for review of applications and instruments related to vessel transactions, maintenance of records for public inspections, providing appropriate guidance to customers based on current regulations and policy, and the issuance of documentation for all geographical areas of the United States.  

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • This position requires a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • A one-year probationary period may be required.
  • This position requires a Minimum Background Investigation (MBI).

Qualifications

AT THE GS-04 LEVEL:  Applicant must have at least one year of general experience. Progressively responsible clerical, administrative, management personnel, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. Examples of specialized experience includes: organizational functions/procedures to prepare reports, maintain files, refer phone calls, receives and reviews unclassified mail. OR  Two years of education above high school OR AT THE GS-05 LEVEL: Applicant must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-04 level in the federal service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with particular ability, skills, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typical in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience includes: responsible for incoming and outgoing mail,  sorts and prepares files, handling routine vessel documentation functions, function of office automation equipment and software,  report writing and the use of routine statistics to present information, interact with other employees. OR Four years of education above high school OR COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post high school education and experience may be used to meet the total experience requirements.  National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.  If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
