Duties
Serve as the Environmental Health Technician, responsible for the evaluation and corrective actions to address Environmental Health and Sanitation.
Consultant to the installation medical authority for monitoring and eliminating health hazards.
Liaise to civilian agencies for emergency preparedness and response.
Recommend measures for correction and control of noted deficiencies.
Present formal and informal classes to military and civilian personnel, such as foodservice sanitation, climatic injury prevention, medical threat briefings, travel medicine, Child Youth Services and Family Child Care health.
Perform Food service and vendor compliance inspections in accordance with applicable Food Service Sanitation Codes.
Perform potable and recreational water quality sample collection, preparation, analysis, and interpretation for compliance in accordance with applicable water quality standards.
Inspect clinical Regulated Medical Waste Program, Medical Waste Program, and Hazardous Waste Program for compliance with Department of Defense (DoD), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and California standards.
Train field personnel to record, interpret, and disseminate data from the Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) index monitoring device.
Write reports delineating findings with recommendations for corrective action.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation (NACI) (Tier 1).
- Term employment is subject to a one-year trial period. Employees serving a trial period.
- This is a Term position scheduled to last 3 Years. A term position may be extended to a maximum of six years depending upon the needs of management.
- This is an obligated position. An obligated position is one to which an employee has statutory restoration rights or entitlement based on active return rights based on an overseas tour.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position has a requirement Moderate lifting 15lbs to 44lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- This position requires the employee to use proper personal protective equipment will be provided and is required.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement. Selectee will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations.
- Incumbent will be required to successfully complete the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) or military unique training courses.
- Require Occasional Temporary Duty TDY up to 20%.

In order to qualify, you must meet the Education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes advising on programs concerned with the elimination and prevention of environmental health hazards, conducting surveys and implement measures to control the spread of diseases and other health hazards or conditions. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).

Education: Two years of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, successfully completed two years (i.e., 36 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Public Health. Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
PHYSICAL DEMANDS. Surveys and inspections require regular and recurring physical exertion such as prolonged standing, bending, and stooping. Possible lifting of items up to 44lbs is to be expected.
Work Environment: The work involves regular and recurring exposure to moderate risks or discomforts during inspections, surveys, etc. that require special safety precautions.
Education
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
