The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a Youth Programs support assistant, performing various administrative and clerical duties in support of Youth Programs.
Duties
Performs clerical and administrative work in support of the office/organization.
Assist management in creating and modifying staff work schedules.
Computes, collects, records, and deposits fees and other service charges.
Uses multiple types of office automation equipment and software to create, format, modify, edit and print a variety of documents.
Provides customer service to all patrons while demonstrating proper work procedures and protocol for front desk operations.

- Skills of fully qualified typist are required. The incumbent must have the ability to type a minimum of 40 WPM.
- Must be able to obtain a health and food handler's card and successfully complete a Tier 1 Background Check.
- Must have certification or complete requirements for CPR and First Aid certification.
- This position is a childcare position subject to background check IAW Public Law101-647.
- Position may require night and weekend work.
- Other duties may be assigned as required.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the general experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Clerical and Administrative Support Positions.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-5, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes: knowledge of a variety of administrative support for the School Age Programs, Youth Programs, or Young Adult (Teen) Programs; providing a variety of specialized clerical and office automation support interfacing with families; receiving children and patrons and facilitating registration fee collection, patron contract preparation and orientation, classroom scheduling and associated functions; generating a wide range of reports, providing documentation, and providing clerical and automation support for personnel actions and timecards and various other support functions.

EDUCATION: Successfully completed four years of education above high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
OR
COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Have less than the specialized experience. Some education above high school level.
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-5 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-5 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of the substantive programs of the organization as they relate to administrative and clerical support functions.
2. Knowledge of clerical practices and office routines to coordinate the work of the office.
3. Knowledge of the duties, priorities and policies of Youth Programs to perform non-routine assignments such as independently shifting clerical staff in response to fluctuating workloads, advising other clerical staff on preparing reports, requirements for various reports, filing systems and proper money handling techniques and procedures. Skill in typing; a qualified typist is required.
4. Knowledge of PC's and skill in the use of various software to accomplish the administrative work of the unit.
5. Knowledge of safety and training procedures.
6. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
