This position is based within the Animal Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), Veterinary Services, Field Operations, Logistics Center, National Veterinary Stockpile Program (NVSP). The NVSP is a comprehensive program designed to address emergency preparedness and response activities related to animal health. The role encompasses a range of responsibilities including distribution of veterinary countermeasures materials in support of the Logistics Center NVSP.
Duties
The duties may include, but are not limited to:
Oversees various material handling duties, including preservation, packing, and repacking of materials for storage and/or shipment.
Performs warehouse tasks such as receiving, stowing, stock selection, shipment, and distribution of veterinary materials and equipment using material handling equipment.
Answers workers' questions regarding procedures, policies, written instructions, and directions, and provides information to the supervisor on the status and progress of work.
Performs inspections and basic testing of materials managed under the shelf-life program.
Oversees and participates in inventories by verifying counts of types and quantities of items and resolving discrepancies by checking stock status information in issue requests.
The incumbent performs all quality assurance duties in a manner that directly contributes to the procedures and products of the National Veterinary Stockpile goals and initiatives.
Utilize a computerized system for inventory tracking and control.
Inspects, receives, sorts, ships, counts, and identifies hazardous materials such as chemicals, flammables, gas cylinders, dry ice, and ammunition.
Requirements
- You must be a US Citizen or US National.

- Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served.

- Valid state driver's license is required at the time of application.
- Often stands on hard surfaces for extended periods of time, and bends, stoops, and works in tiring and sometimes uncomfortable positions.
- Lifts and carry items that weigh up to 40 pounds.
- Work is done inside in a climate-controlled warehouse or outside in areas that may be hot, damp, cold, drafty, or poorly lighted.
- Regular exposure to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, abrasions, falls, and injury from falling stock or mechanized work areas.
- When working in hazardous material areas, may be subject to exposure from radiation, toxins, explosive hazards, or chemical fumes.
- Work may require wearing protective clothing such as hardhats, steel toed shoes, rubber gloves, masks, and rubber aprons.
