About the Position: You will be responsible for performing ranger duties in conjunction with a wide variety of assignments inherent in the accomplishment of the Corps missions at a Visitor Center. Assignments include work in support of visitor center operation, interpretation, public relations, and volunteer management. Assignments are of a progressive nature and require initiative in selecting appropriate methods and techniques in accomplishing day-to-day work as well as long-term goals.

Duties

Assist in planning, developing, and implementing the Interpretive Program at the Visitor Center which represents the Honolulu District. Maintain and update Visitor Center displays. Assist with a volunteer program to include training, staffing, clerical duties, and specialized tasks. Conduct Interpretive Presentations such as programs for school, civic, scout, senior, and other organized groups; audiovisual and other media presentations; self-guided and conducted tours; and scheduled public programs and guest speakers. Operation and Maintenance of a Visitor Center Areas such as usage and conditions of public areas and facilities for sanitation, maintenance, safety and fire hazards.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a driver's license in one of the 50 US states or possessions and any installation and/or DoD requirement.
  • Temporary duty (TDY) travel is approximately 5%.
  • Work schedule - This position requires the incumbent to work a tour of duty of Tuesday through Saturday with possibility of occasional Sundays.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience with Park Ranger duties such as visitor center operations, interpretive services, visitor assistance services, and recreation management. Experience may have been in technical, administrative, or scientific work, fish and wildlife management, recreation management, or other park-related work. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with twenty-four semester hours of related course work in natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education by 120. Add the two percentages. Advancement requirement to positions up to GS-05: Candidates may be advanced without time restriction to positions up to GS-05 if the position to be filled is no more than two grades above the lowest grade the employee held within the preceding 52 weeks under his or her latest non-temporary competitive appointment. NOTE: To support the Advancement requirement you MUST submit a copy of your latest non-award SF-50/NPA that reflects your highest grade held on a permanent basis along with your application/resume package. Failure to do so may affect your rating or consideration for employment.
