The primary purpose of this position is: To serve as a C-5 aircraft loadmaster instructor administer, schedule, and conduct ground training which develops and upgrades the skills of loadmaster aircrew members; to perform aircrew duties as instructor loadmaster in the C-5M and to perform related staff support duties; to train loadmasters in these duties.
Duties
Develops and provides technical loadmaster upgrade and proficiency training/instruction to loadmaster aircrew members.
Accomplishes all requirements involved in instructing mission planning and coordination.
Accomplishes a wide variety of ground, pre-flight and post-flight training duties required by the nature of the aircraft assigned and the aircraft's specialized mission.

This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use. This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Testing Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing. Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety. Incumbent of this position is subject to the possibility of a random drug test.
This is a Term position NTE __2 YEARS___; the individual selected for this position may be extended without further competition. Current Federal civilian employees may apply for this position using "Reinstatement" eligibility and if selected, a break in service of at least 4 calendar days may be required prior to appointment to this position.
In order to qualify, you must meet the general experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Aircrew Technician Series 2185.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-07, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes systems or equipment knowledge and skills requirements relate primarily to the cargo/passenger transport function, or to equipment located in or serving the cargo/passenger compartment, e.g., mechanical restraint systems, cargo doors, ramps, hatches, seats, litters, lighting, and intercom systems. Specific knowledge and skills applied vary depending upon the assignment, i.e., point-to-point transportation of cargo and/or personnel or airdrop missions; knowledge of systems and equipment associated with the cargo function, including operation of doors, loading ramps, cargo winches, and restraint rail systems, and skill to apply this knowledge to plan and complete loading operations; knowledge of aircraft capacity and limitations, including floor load restrictions, shoring and restraint requirements, and use of load charts and graphs, and skill to apply weight and balance factors in preparing loading plans which will provide the optimum center of gravity throughout the flight.
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-7 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-8 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Knowledge of systems and equipment associated with the cargo function, including operation of doors, loading ramps, cargo winches, restraint rail systems, and assigned passenger/cargo compartment systems, such as oxygen, lighting, interphone, auxiliary power unit, crew or passenger required items, and emergency procedures, evacuation routes and use of survival equipment.
Knowledge of aircraft capacity and limitations, including floor load restrictions, shoring and restraint requirements, and use of load charts and graphs, as applied in consideration of weight and balance factors during preparation of loading plans to provide the optimum center of gravity throughout the flight.
Knowledge of mission tasking procedures and outside agencies to determine ground support requirements and procedures for preparing cargo for loading, palletized cargo, vehicle preparation, handling and placement of hazardous cargo.
Skills to perform preflight/post-flight checks and inspections as well as direct crews in loading according to weight and balance factors, cargo destinations and emergency jettison plans.
Must be thoroughly proficient in evaluating, diagnosing, and critiquing student performance; identifying learning difficulties; recognizing objectives not accomplished; and prescribing and conducting remedial instruction.
Ability to communicate orally and in writing to prepare lessons, documents and reports, present training/instruction, and brief passengers and crews.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
