About the Position: This position is located with the U.S. Army Sustainment Command, 406th Army Field Support Brigade, Logistics Readiness Center at Fort Jackson, SC.
This is a Planned Management Action open to Current Civilian Employees of the Organization.
Duties
Operate various types of motorized vehicles ranging in size, weight, and passenger or supply transport capacity from a four (4) passenger sedan to an eighty (80) passenger-designed transport platform.
Operate other types of gasoline, diesel, or electric-powered vehicles with a gross vehicle rate rating (GVWR) exceeding 26,000 pounds on scheduled and/or unscheduled routes in traffic and/or hazardous conditions to transport passengers and materials.
Utilize safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment.
Safely use vehicles/equipment, applying established safety and traffic rules and regulations to minimize minor violations and avoid significant violations due to employee error or negligence.
Read and interpret regulations and technical publications
Maintain records and documents actions, such as operator inspection checklists/forms and accident/incident reports.
Read maps and judges road/traffic conditions to determine the shortest and safest route.
Perform operator maintenance, such as checking fluid levels and air pressure in tires, cleaning and washing vehicles, and performing inspection checklists to ensure safe and proper operations.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) and requires the incumbent to complete a drug urinalysis testing prior to employment and randomly thereafter.
- This position requires the incumbent to successfully complete a medical clearance examination prior to employment and may require an annual physical or medical surveillance examination.
- This position requires the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) Tier 1 Background Investigation.
- Must possess and maintain a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger-endorsement (P), tanker-endorsement (N), and a current Department of Transportation (DOT) medical card. Incumbent will have 180-days to obtain the N endorsement.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs or more in the regular performance of duties.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Motor Vehicle Operator without more than normal supervision. I am skilled in operating various types of motorized vehicles, and passenger or supply transport capacity from a four (4) passenger sedan to an eighty (80) passenger-designed transport platform. I can safely use vehicles and/or equipment by applying established safety policies; perform operator maintenance on necessary vehicles/equipment; and maintain records regarding accident/incident reports. I work under supervision of a work leader or work supervisor who reviews my work for completion. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Effort: Physical effort is moderate to heavy. Work requires reaching, turning or moving hands, arms, feet and legs to operate hand and foot controls. Associated duties require stooping, bending, and climbing. Lifts and carries objects weighing up to 40 pounds and heavier objects with assistance. Must be able to climb into tractor cab safely.
Working Conditions: Drivers work mostly outside and operate vehicles in all kinds of traffic and weather on public roads (or equivalent) and are exposed to the danger of serious accidents. Drivers are exposed to dirt, fumes and to the possibility of cuts, bruises, and broken bones as a result of accidents when loading and unloading the vehicle. They drive in heavy traffic and at highway speeds over complicated road and interchange systems. Drivers operate on regular and/or irregular shift hours for routine mission requirements and/or installation-level contingency or crisis response controls.
