About the Position: This position is located with the U.S. Army Sustainment Command, 406th Army Field Support Brigade, Fort Jackson, SC.
This is a Planned Management Action open to Current Civilian Employees of the Organization.
Duties
Ensures vehicles are available, convoy requirements are met, and buses are at the appropriate place on time.
Serves as convoy leader providing direction and/or guidance in accomplishing trades and labor work.
Operate motor vehicles on installation and/or public roads in a full range of traffic conditions.
Drives motor vehicles ranging in size from sedan to 52 passenger buses (gross vehicle weight of over 32,000 pounds) on scheduled short trips, transporting personnel from one place to another.
Conduct all three-phased (pre-during-post) Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services (PMCS) vehicle inspection actions.
Maintains records and documents actions, such as operator inspection checklists/forms and accident/incident reports.
Classifies personal and organizational clothing and individual equipment.
Safely uses vehicles/equipment, applying established safety and traffic rules and regulations to minimize minor violations and avoid significant violations due to employee error or negligence.

Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires incumbent to successfully passed a pre-employment physical examination and annual examinations thereafter.
- This is a drug testing position. Must successfully pass all required drug tests.
- Incumbent must be able to work flexible tours of duty (rotating shifts and weekends).
- Must possess and maintain a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger-endorsement (P), tanker-endorsement (N), and a current Department of Transportation (DOT) medical card. Incumbent will have 180-days to obtain the N endorsement.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs or more in the regular performance of duties.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Motor Vehicle Operator Leader without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common Motor Vehicle Operator Leader tasks. I can provide direction to employees in accomplishing trades work; prioritize workload, using equipment and materials for specific work; safely use vehicles and/or equipment in accordance with applicable safety policies; and perform operator maintenance on vehicles and equipment. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Efforts: The operator is required to work outside and is occasionally exposed to all weather conditions while loading and unloading vehicles. Drives in all types of traffic and weather and is exposed to the possibility of serious accidents. Maneuver the longer and heavier vehicles, especially when controlling, backing, and turning the vehicles. The operator is subject to cuts, bruises, and broken bones because of accidents while driving or when loading and unloading vehicles. Instructions are received from the work lead and/or supervisor on the type of vehicle to be operated, destination, material to be transported, the purpose of the trip, deadlines to be met, and any special information. The operator is responsible for safely transporting passengers and materials throughout rural or urban areas on installation and/or public roads in a full range of traffic conditions.
Working Conditions: Drivers work mostly outside and operate vehicles in all kinds of traffic and weather on public roads (or equivalent) and are exposed to the danger of serious accidents. Drivers are exposed to dirt, fumes and to the possibility of cuts, bruises, and broken bones as a result of accidents when loading and unloading the vehicle. They drive in heavy traffic and at highway speeds over complicated road and interchange systems. Drivers operate on regular and/or irregular shift hours for routine mission requirements and/or installation-level contingency or crisis response controls.
