You will serve as a MUSEUM SPECIALIST (HISTORY) in the Collections Management Section, within the Collections Branch of the National Museum of the Marine Corps (NMMC) of TRAINING AND EDUCATION COMMAND.
Duties
You will be responsible for the hands-on care and management of over 52,000 artifacts, 4,000 weapons, and 9,000 works of art.
You will be responsible for the proper care, housing, and transport of a wide range of objects and artwork that is held in five collections
You will assess objects for proper storage, transport, and exhibit.
You will design and builds custom boxes, crates, and skids. Uses archival materials to mitigate risks and preserve the artifacts or artwork.
You will be responsible for handling a variety of artifacts in various work environments
You will recommend and develops new and improved methods and techniques of artifact preservation and storage.
You will document and record conditions using the Department of Navy Heritage Asset Management System (DONHAMS).
You will contribute to annual budget for consumables and expendables, training, and contracted services.
Requirements

- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
Qualifications
GS-11
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: conducting independent research to determine the physical condition and history of artwork, places, and objects AND exhibiting knowledge of object care, transport, housing, and exhibit parameters (e.g., temperature controls, relative humidity, UV light levels, etc.).
GS-09
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: demonstrating the ability to transport and install artifacts AND demonstrating the ability to thoroughly catalog a wide variety of objects (e.g., aircraft, aircraft components, tanks, vehicles, optics, communications equipment, weapons, cameras, textiles, uniforms, flags, ephemera, and artwork).

Education
In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:
GS-09:
Successfully completed two full years of progressively higher-level graduate education in a related field of study including art, history, museum studies, scientific subjects, or other courses related to the position to be filled.
OR
Successfully completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree in a related field of study including art, history, museum studies, scientific subjects, or other courses related to the position to be filled.
OR
Have a combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience. My percentage of the required education plus my percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent.
